It's more than that even. It's the best vs. the best. It makes me cringe when people say they don't want to see mayweather-pacquiao because it won't be amazingly exciting... then at the same time disparage Ward-Gatti as nothing but a club fight.

this fight will be between the undipsuted 2 best boxers in the world right now. it's a contrast of styles, and no it is not going to be Hagler-Hearns, but it is going to be a great tactical battle between the two best in the sport. How can a boxing fan not want to see it? And if you can afford it, why wouldn't you want to be there?

I attended the first Cotto/Margarito bout. I've experienced those types of crowds... it was amazing, but certainly more common than a super fight on the level of Mayweather/Pacquiao. I may never have the chance to witness something like that again.

I think I'm going to head down in May either way. Was planning a vacation around then anyway, why not Vegas?

If the fight takes place in May we should hang out S_D! I want me first time in Vegas to coincide with a big fight. None bigger than this.

Of course. We had BETTER hang out if we're both in Vegas to watch boxing. As I said, I think I'll head down that way in early May no matter who is fighting.

Nah, the Pacquiao that fought Hatton and Cotto I give a 55% chance of beating Floyd. I would have picked him by apprehensive decision.

Pacquiao isn't much without his extreme speed, energy, and agility etc, and at age 32, he has slowed down too much, and also lost some of his trademark "No Fear" fighting spirit.

I take it you didn't see the Baker fight.

I think Nonito is clearly the best fighter in the world right now.

In a P4P matchup, I would take him over both Pacquiao and Floyd, and Martinez without a doubt.

Nah y'all have it all wrong.

Floyd is CLEARLY the best. Undefeated, ya dig?

Then comes Nonito, Martinez and Pac.

I don't get it. Whether he called Pac out on HBO or not you best believe Bob Arum and the rest of Manny's peoples have gotten a hold of this video and have shown Pacquiao. So people keeping saying why does PBF need to make the date. It don't matter. The venue is set the date is set make the damn fight. I'll Holla 5000

Haha, the without a doubt bit was aimed at Martinez.

I think Nonito is better than both Pacquiao and Floyd are now, but obviously in a P4P matchup I wouldn't pick him with any degree of certainty.

he leaps in, throws either a haphazard 1-2 or a haymaker and then clinches... then he leaps back out... then he does it again

He looked downright lousy against a scrub who was doing nothing more than keeping his hands up and throwing half-hearted shots... took him, what, 10 rounds to figure the guy out, a guy there to lose...

What exactly is impressive about his comp? I still say the Williams shot was just one of those once-in-a-blue-moon deals... the first fight was awkward as fuck... the consensus around here seems to be that Williams is and always was way overrated... I've heard the adjective "dumb" used ad nauseum with regard to Williams... this is far and away Martinez's biggest win... If that's the case, and he lost to the fucking guy the first time out, how the hell did he end up with this halo on his head all of the sudden? By beating Kelly Pavlik? The same Cintron that Margarito had already twice made mincemeat out of? (oh wait, that wasn't even a WIN, it's a draw in the books) ... who exactly is Serihy Dzinziruk? That's a Robert Allen-level fighter right there... we've already discussed Barker

Martinez gets by on a bit of athleticism and a bit of pop, his skills are pretty poor... If he's P4P #1, he's the most ordinary guy I have ever seen ranked there... Shane Mosley is like Roy Jones compared to him

    Absurd.

I've always been a Martinez believer, but in a P4P fight Nonito would fuck him up, no question.

Pretty hard to fuck up a guy whose only intention is to last the distance.

Martinez looked worse against Baker tbh, at least Nonito won every second of every round.

martinez is the best. donaire has plenty to prove against guys his own size. of which he is yet to face a single one.

I agree with this...Longevity counts in the P4P debate and so far Donaire hasn't done the move up in weight that everyone does when they get their man strength. He needs to dominate for a couple of more years to be considered on Floyd, Pac, or even Martinez's level.

You guys know I'm not one to rip on modern day boxing at every turn. But if Martinez is in fact the best fighter (he obviously isn't) he'd probably be the worst #1 fighter in about a century.

That's the only argument against Donaire, that he is bigger than everyone he is facing, he has a big frame for the weight, and punches hard as fuck.

I think he'll still fuck people up at featherweight and even 130.

And in a direct P4P matchup between the two, if they were the exact same natural size, would any of you pick Martinez to beat him? Really?
