Watched the Cintron fight last night. I didn't think his performance was all that, but showed good power, but he beat a guy who didn't look like a fighter who once was, if you get what i'm saying. A guy with speed, good range, good power and who has variety to his choice of punches, will beat him. Just my thoughts.
Sergio Martinez will beat him, Lara probably beats him. I'm not sure about anybody else in his weight class, though there should be plenty of fun fights available for him.
He is a promising young guy and has done pretty well so far. People expect way too much and way too early these days
True he is beatable, but to be even using that phrase in reference to him is alot more than most people expected from him. Dude is solid fighter who is fun to watch.
I get what you mean. He beat Cintron and beat him much more convincingly than most expected. I know he's only 21 and adapting still, but to me, I think at this stage even, he's very beatable.
I get the feeling he's better than he looks. I know his opposition has been mediocre and his style is the opposite of eye catching, but the infrequency with which he loses rounds is still impressive to me. Count me as a tentative 'Alvarez believer'.
Of for the loving of fucking Christ! Stop using his age as an excuse! I dont care if he's 18. He's had 40 fuckin fights!
Fighters tend to evolve as they grow older. There are exceptions such as Benitez or Tyson, but most fighters are not in their prime at 21, as it takes years to build the strength levels and also to master techniques (to repeat them enough). For a tall guy with long arms it takes more time to develop. I am sure your bandwagon is already long gone, but Alvarez might still have a future in the sport
Yep, agreed. When are people going to realise age doesn't always matter. You get guys that peak at 21 and guys that peak in their early to mid 30's like Martinez and to some extent, even Marquez. You get guys like Nando that are borderline shot in their mid 20's, and guys that can be elite fighters at 40. I think Alvarez is in his prime right now, I doubt he gets any better than this.
Surprised at Hut's reaction to Alvarez. I would pick Cotto to fuck him up, and I would do so confidently. I don't care that he's not losing many rounds, he's simply being matched well. Cintron was literally a shell of a once average fighter.
He fights frequently and they're building up his pro experience. They're doing it the right way. If there's a reason he needs to step up the comp (and he is) it's because he's now a 'world champ' not because he's had x or y fights.
Don't get me wrong, we aren't witnessing the rise of a future legend, but there are things I like about him.
cotto is about to leave another piece of himself in msg. we'll see what he has left after saturday. even now if it were alvarez in the ring with cotto in a few days i think it would be a competitive fight.
