The fight wasn't stopped out of concern for Margarito eventual vision. It was stopped because the doctor felt it was dangerous for him to continue without seeing from his right eye, despite the fact he probably just had his best round of the fight, wich is totally absurd imo.
And no, this isn't about if Margarito would have won had it continue but simply to point out a bad call ( heard it was a rule in NY to stop the fight if one fighter couldn't see from an eye, wich is absurd if true ) wich smell hometown considering how well Cotto sells in NY
Very legit stoppage. He couldn't see out of that eye. Margarito landed the occasional punch but he hardly landed anything really effective. And Cotto would have just kept countering his ass anyway if the fight had continued which would have just damaged the eye more.
Margarito's a big boy, if he's aware of the risk to his eye, which he was, & *compos mentis* (on the ball & that, no?), which he was, I think he had a right to continue
Cotto looked disappointed by the stoppage. My guess is that he would have liked to give Margaritp a bit more punishment. I would have liked it too. I don't feel Cotto was in any danger of being stopped before the end. He was in total control.
I just think Margarito had a right to take the risk on himself, given that hehad all the information anybody else did. He was apparently willing to risk going blind i one eye to win (which he still had a chance of) & its his eye
:: Celtic won again today anyways. Did the Brothers not beat some Latin into you. I know I've beaten some Irish into more than my fair share of Latins.
I agree. Marg is a grown ass man. He has been well compensated in this profession as well. He knew and knows what he signed up for. He also still had a chance to win the fight. I sometimes wonder if Arturo Gatti, Bobby Chacon, or any of the great come from behind victories we know of today would have ever even happened in modern boxing
The commission took a risk by allowing him to fight in the first place. They had the right to stop it to prevent any further damage.
levander johnson was fighting back the whole fight. it means nothing. the doctor who is an eye specialist says he cant go on so its goid enough for me
I think he had no chance to win, and couldn't see the left hooks coming. If it was allowed to continue, he would have taken more and more punishment, which was unnecessary. He wasn't going to come close to stopping Cotto let's face it, his punches aren't much without the magic wraps, and Cotto was (amazingly) still fresh and boxing well. It was a good stoppage, his eye was completely shut, he had lost every round, and letting him continue would have only allowed him a further beating. Which would have been great, but objectively, it should have been stopped.
The stoppage was 6 to 9 minutes too late. I hate Margarito as much as the next man. It just wouldn't be good for the sport if he died in the ring. Hopefully, he dies after a Tijuana hooker bleeds him out after slamming his rectum with a pink dildo. It would be bad for him to die in the ring though.
You gotta let the Doc do his thing, guys. We rarely howl when the corner over-rules their man. We shouldnt treat Doctors any differently.
Odds are good. He is of common disgusting 3rd world stock. He, at best, has an 87 IQ and he is a sociopath. I will be amazed if he doesn't end up in jail or just as likely sucking a donkey off for misguided American middle class students out for a Tijuana adventure.
Docs are chosen/paid by the same men as the refs (potentially similar incentives to bias which are different to a cornerman's). But no big stink this time, agreed. I just wanted to see Tony walking into doors for the rest of his filthy existence.
totally irrevelant as the doctor didn't stopped the fight becaue he felt margarito was taking a beating but only because he wasn't able to see out of his right eye. How many fighters have won fights with their eye swollen shut ( kevin Kelly - Gainer I for example ), it would have never happened with this doc. Soon enough, thei're gonna stop fights when a fighter breaks his hand to protect him from further dammage
no, but I think he would have made Cotto's life hard in the last 3 rounds. And Margarito's a proud, brave fighter, he deserved the opportunity to continue in spite of his closed eye ( wich was not deemed as a long term health risk by the doc when he stopped it asaik )as the later rounds are usually his realm. And miracle have happened before
