For UK members really - last night, channel ITV1 showed a 90 minutes documentary surrounding the Nigel Benn v Gerald McClellan fight of 1995.

I knowm pretty much everyone has their own opinion on what happened before, during and since the fight....did anyone catch it?

I don't know how it could be uploaded, so I guess this will have to do:
    http://www.itv.com/thefightoftheirlives/

Hope everyone gets a chance to view it now...

I watched it last night. The most interesting element is that ITV showed it at all- that fight has been locked in their vault gathering dust for so long I didn't think it would ever emerge. Well worth watching though, for our UK brethern who didn't catch it.

Yes, that link is for those who miss it - is ITV Player available outside of the UK?

Why for UK members only? That fight is famous across the world and Gerald is an American.

Because the UK fighter beat him almost to death with a series of rabbit punches and head butts.

Ah fuck off, cry yourself to sleep Steve, Peter rabbit punched the shit out of Wlad all night and all you did was bitch about Wlad. What's wrong, big Yank dog and flaming shooting pussy couldn't take a bit of a whipping from small, twice-knocked-out, pigeon-toed Nigel Benn???

Benn stood up to him and beat him down. Benn was right. It was ALL set up for McClellan to come over to London and bash Benn up. Then McClellan and Jones were going to go and make millions together.

Benn dragged himself back into that fight by his bootlaces and landed hella quality shots. And you know what's worse? A kilt-wearing, settled tinker from Cabra, West-Dublin went and beat Benn up. Twice.

Because the documentary was on UK TV. I'm pretty sure the on-demand repeat is only available to UK viewers, too.

This probably makes me a bad person, but I have that fight on DVD and watch it periodically. I've probably watched it more than any non-Ali fight to be honest. Despite it's awful end, it was an unbelievably violent, tense and gripping fight. I remember watching it live on ITV when I was about 14 when boxing was BIG in the UK. The build up to the fight was massive, intense and unbelievably exciting. I can remember almost all of it vividly; without that fight (and the Benn-Eubanks-Watson trilogy) I almost certainly wouldn't be a boxing fan today.

I know its not quite the same thing but when I was about 13, 14 my pals went through a wee phase of watching snuff films on the net and I could never face them. Again I dont think they were bad people they were just less squeamish or could muster more detachment, or whatever.

It's one of those for me as well, Hut. It was an amazing fight, absolutely savage, it's just you know what happens, I don't like to watch it back.

Couple of rabbit punches and an unintentional headbut never hurt anyone.

Well, apart from Gerald, that is.

Fuck him, anyway...guy was a genuinely nasty piece of work....

Watch the docu - no-one blames Nige!!!

McClellan was indeed a horrible piece of shit. Wouldn't go as far as to wish that kind of injury on anyone, but he was a cunt.

Much as I feel. Sometimes, bad things happen to bad people. McClellan was a despicable piece of excrement, and I dont feel a jot of sympathy for him, much as that is, "blasphemy," to many fight fans.

That aside, it is a BRILLIANTLY exciting spectacle and Hut is missing out, IMO.

Benn fought like fuck just to stay it. He eradicated the stench of the Watson fight forever that night.
