"parki" can never be said casually down here, not anywhere in the midlands, and not within the vicinity of any large south asian population in england i'm guessing.

March 2005. Of course, they went and outdid themselves that Summer.

The way in which HBO tried to talk about Khan being on enemy territory when DC was in fact the scene of much of his recent hob-nobbing with the American political elite was pretty awkward to say the least.

HBO needs to hire somebody who's gonna REALLY speak the truth at all times. Where's Larry Holmes' old ass at?

Could you picture Holmes commentating a Khan fight?

Lampley "BEAUTIFUL combination by Khan *insert orgasm*

Holmes "What the hell was that bullshit flurry? Khan aint shit!"

    Or hell...... just hire Mike!

Mike "The gentlemen, whats his name..... ummm, the Muslim brotha over here, is gettin the shit kicked outta him right now. Ohh my gawwddd! Peterson's just beating him into bolivian!"

It isn't funny of course, because it's very very true.

Holmes, in particular, would have derided these guys like they were nothing.

Foreman is too "re-invented" as a nice guy to bother.

Somebody like Carmen Basilio would have ripped them mercilessly too. You know, Amir Khan, that when Sugar Ray Robinson is the second best fighter Carmen has ever seen that, this means you are pretty well fucked on his list.

I'm sorry..but who considered Reid to be anywhere near the top 10 p4p list? I don't recall that at all. Who did he ever beat to even be considered for that rating?

I don't think so. I just put that up as proof that he had in fact gotten an explicit warning which some {not here} felt he had not.

He's a brick, in fairness to him, he's just doing what they tell him to do. I've never seen a fighter who was so perfectly arranged, in every way, facet, and motivation, to the making of money and the fabrication of spin and nonsense. I've never once heard him mention his legacy. You can tell Floyd worries about what people might think of him in 10 years, Khan doesn't. Khan knows he is going back to the protective insular spunk-bubble that spawned him, a land where he will be King forever.

Khan wants that big pay day. Against either Mayweather or Pacquiao would do. So he's doing what he can to sell himself. Now that he's lost again, he's just gonna talk even more shit.

He'll do whatever he can to lure either Mayweather or Pacquiao to fight him and once he gets a beating from whomever he gets the fight with, he'll call it a day.

He's the David Haye of 140 pounds.

good point. pakistani-in-britain culture does not offer much motivation for having a glorious, gutsy boxing career.

but saying that, khan has a better rate of facing respectable opposition than hatton and slappy did at this stage of their careers.

Dont really agree with that. Maybe not in terms of abstract motivations like 'legacy' but I think he'd definitely take a need to not be seen as taking the cowardly way out. Gotta impress.

Yet, ironically, Hatton after 20 fights destroys the guys Khan is currently facing, and the guys Hatton fought after 30 fights probably beat Khan himself.

You see, respectability and advancement are relative concepts. Hatton as an old, wasted guy beat up Malignaggi better than Khan did.

In Hattons prime, Paulie probably doesn't make it out of the 4th round. But Khan needs 11 rounds in HIS prime.

As for the first point, Khan and his people know that, from boxing standpoint, he's done fuck all, but they just want enough for him to be able to cod the people back at home.

They clearly have a lot of the hacks and the press onside, pumping their agenda. If it was a legacy thing, all the column inches in the world couldn't cover up what is happening to Khan, but because its some cross-cultural bullshit exercise, he's doing just fine.

That's what the morons on SKY mean when they say the Peterson loss hasn't affected him at all. He's still on course to take that career-best-payday-beating and retire to drive his BMW around Bolton where he will be remembered as the GOAT.

  you and i seem to be disagreeing a lot recently about the character traits of britain's pakistani population. all i'm saying is that there are no predecessors and no real frame of reference in the group - if khan were mexican, white british, black british, he could get compared to jcc, calzaghe, lennox lewis, but as a pakistani he's basically the group's most successful boxer ever. britain's south asian population generally prize economic success over anything else, like you said in another post; all other values come a distant second. sure, there's a sort of 'macho' ethic, but there's generally no real understanding of boxing, and certainly no high-falutin ideas about "legacy" or anything like that, so it'd be pretty easy to do a bum-of-the-month routine, like naz did until he stepped up and got embarrassed by barrera.

again, saying that, the brute empirical evidence is that khan is actually fighting people, so the hypothesis is pretty irrelevant.

Proper inside work.....Hatton was fucking hostile on the inside, and neat and concise. This is a great clip as you can see Hatton being warned for pushing and for getting Oliveira in a head-clamp.

Roy Jones never utilized his jab properly, in the historical/textbook sense, but having said that I don't know if you would necessarily call it being "inept".

It's arguable whether he was "world class", but Arturo Gatti was never good at covering up/holding when in trouble. Although fighting back as he did was what contributed to his legend.

Yeah but Roy wasn't trying to throw the jab. Khan is trying to fight on the inside.

Hang on...watch his fight with Ward.....he makes Ward miss a few, Khan would have eaten ALL of them.

Gatti at least knew enough not to stand high & straight & let a guy get underneath him on the inside so he couldnt throw back.

Roy Jones is a great fighter, Khan is not and never will be.

Gatti and Ward were both glorifed club fighters at best. Everytime Gatti fought a decent guy he got his ass whupped. What he did against Ward doesn't mean a damn thing.

Whatever Hatton would have done, Tszyu would have done worse. Tszyu is one of the very few fighters I have ever watched who could tee off with his best shot and make it look like he wasn't even bothered. With Hatton, there was a grunt and you knew he was trying to hurt someone. With Tszyu, it was liking watching a Nadal forehand during a warm-up session. An effortless slide of the arm.

    <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OL0pisF2t04?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OL0pisF2t04?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

Here, you get the desperation of when his eye is lumping up, but he settles and finishes the fight with effortless destructive shots.
