I wouldn't say it was a stinker from him. He fought the best he could. I think he believed he was miles above peterson in terms of class and found himself in a tough fight he didn't expect. A fight like this can make or break a guy. If he can look at the tape and recognize his deficiencies and make an honest attempt to correct them he can be okay. "HOWEVER" If he goes on a blame game mission, trainer, referee, the venue, etc...could be detrimental. Though I don't know a thing about Khan and his team, I get the sense they are as loyal until the last dollar they can squeeze out of someone...in that case as soon as he thinks he can make a quicker dollar elsewhere that's where he will go. Based on how the Judah fight was a failure in Vegas, I wouldn't be surprised to see him only want to fight in England from here on out.
Yep, I agree with all that. He did fight the best he could, it was the same Khan as always, he only really knows how to fight 1 way, the old Skate 'n' Flurry. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised with Khan's performance, the only surprise was Peterdude giving a solid, spirited performance. How much of a relative failure was the Judah fight in Vegas compared to what they were expecting?
Maybe "stinker" was too harsh a word to use - I was referring to his constant pushing & holding, which wasn't pleasant to see. He's already made excuses - blaming the ref & the judges. Has he actually credited Peterson yet for his performance, instead of accusing him of "foul play"? Khan thought he was "the cleaner fighter" too.
British Reaction. Just listen to this shit. Pops Khan weighs in with his tuppence worth. I assume mom stayed home to mind the shop and make sure Mariyah didn't go fooling around with any Kuffars at the weekend. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tCiRLi5QKQk?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tCiRLi5QKQk?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

You know, I am indifferent as to who I wanted to win this bout. But the thing that struck me is that Khan, when his legs failed to move him out of danger, resorted to pushing Peterson away or pulling his head down. The bottom line is that he couldn't keep Peterson off him without illegal tactics. It certainly is odd that 2 points were taken away but it was continued illegal behavior that aided in Khan surviving. Personally I don't think there is anything to bitch about. If I'm Khan and Roach I quit worrying about the decision and the ref and start worrying about dealing with pressure, swarming fighters. Just my 2 cents.
of course you would Tarver's career is knocking out a faded Roy Jones Starling was flatly a better fighter than Tarver
Amateur isn't in the discussion (nor should it be), this site is about pro boxing Tarver accomplished more? how exactly? what's the biggest win of his life before lucking out on Roy Jones magically turning to shit? Eric Harding? The same guy that basically beat him to death the first time around? After that? A rematch decision over Glen Johnson? A decision over Clinton Woods? And what about the fighters themselves? Starling was a masterful defensive fighter and a great counterpuncher, Tarver was a one-trick pony: counter left hand... all day, all night... Tarver got fucking humiliated by a guy coming up in weight (an aged guy at that), he was never in the fight... Nobody ever did that to Starling, even at his absolute worst on nights when he did more clowning than fighting... There's got to be 15 light heavyweights at their best who would win going away against Tarver at his bets, absolutely dominate him (including the real Roy Jones, pre-Ruiz) ... I could think of 15 Welterweights at their best who could beat Starling at his, but there's not a soul I'd pick to beat him easy, beat him so that he's never in the fight... Tarver had a bit better one shot power than Starling, other than that he didn't do a damn thing as well as him
this site is about pro boxing? i must have missed that memo. there has been plenty of discussion about amateur boxing here. Tarver simply had a better boxing career than Starling in my opinion. you want to knock him for rematching harding and knocking him the fuck out? he beat johnson twice as far as Im concerned as well.
no, its not about amateur boxing, how many threads have been dedicated to amateur boxing over ten years? 5? Nobody sits there and says "Mark Breland was better than Dwight Qawi because he was an awesome amateur and Qawi never had a fight there" ... nobody sane anyway, you might say something like that Pro and Am are totally seperate things and should remain so... You throw Tarver's Am career in there because it is the only way you have a case... Marlon was a better pro fighter than Tarver, he had more skills, he fought better comp and he failed to be dominated ever (Tarver was dominated twice... by Eric Harding, a totally ordinary Light Heavyweight contender and by Bernard Hopkins, a 40 something middleweight who couldn't win unless the pace was about 30 punches per round) Tarver has 35 fights for his career, 20 of them against bums, better career my ass... Starling was clearly a better pro fighter, clearly harder to beat, harder to deal with
What did you expect? It's not like Khan had friends or a girlfriend or a pet dog or any opportunity to leave the house. These people just hang around together. If some dandruff falls out of their hair on the bus, they pick it up and pocket it. Why? Because it's THEIR fucking dandruff, not yours. I know electrical systems that aren't as well insulated as them.

Starling did get rid of Breland, who was something of a Khan of his time. A flash-harry Olympian that had a lot of people thinking he was the next this that and the other.
The discussion is about the nickname. Starling wasn't nicknamed the Magic Man because he had a better resume than Tarver. It was because he could stand in the pocket, closer than arms reach to his opponent, and was an absolute chore to hit cleanly. Yes, albeit corny, it was like Magic. I don't think I've seen more than a handful of guys with better, pure defense.
Naturally you're right. In terms of boxing history, knocking out Jones was scaling Mount Everest. But in terms of my personal gratification, which is all that matters, nothing compares to Starling destroying, embarrassing, and ending Lloyd Honeyghan.
