I know, I was joking. A play on Arum's "Yesterday I was lying, today I'm telling the truth." Kind of like always telling your kids 'tomorrow' whenever they ask for something, as opposed to a specific day.

But no, I don't see the fight happening in 2012. The claim heading into the Narvaez fight was that Donaire was looking at a '12 campaign that would include Arce, Nishioka AND Gamboa.

So who's the first negotiated fight of the year? Vazquez.

I do believe, however, that Donaire-Arce will happen sometime in 2012

    Vazquez? Arce?

WTF is going on with Donaire's career? What's with all the gimme's? He's in his prime and possibly the best fighter in the world, guys like Nishioka and Gamboa are who he should be fighting, not washed up midgets that have a 0.001% chance of beating him.

I like Donaire a lot, but it's kind of hard to be a fan with such a pathetic level of competition.

:laugh11: I know you were. I felt like acting the bollocks.

Again, the fights are out there, but they aren't being made. It's not on. Boxing, today, just seems to be all about making the easy dollar, instead of giving the fans what they want. It's a vicious cycle these days.

Too right. Unfortunately if you're got somewhat of a name, you can make very, very legit money fighting gimme's. Fighting legit opponents doesn't pay enough to justify the risk of losing. Therefore it's mainly going to be about legacy and greatness etc for good fights to even get paid, generally speaking.

It's the one area where MMA shits on boxing, top fighters fight each other all the time, it's normal. There's only one protected fighter in the whole of the UFC.

I kind of wish boxing was run like this to be honest, but without the monopoly aspect.

If I was a boxer, i'd want to face whoever is considered my equal, or face a guy who is considered better than me, to attempt to prove whether I can beat the best or whether I am not quite as good as I thought I was. It's all about gaining respect amongst your fellow sportsman, your critics and your fans. I could not live with myself if I knew people were laughing at me for not stepping up to the plate and facing the best on offer.

If arce knocked donaire out would that vault him into the top 5 or 7 mexicans ever?

That's a very good question. It would cement his place in the Hall of Fame, that's for sure.

That said, I'd take Donaire and by a lot if/when this fight happens.

I agree it's a mismatch. A complete and utter mismatch.

Donaire is not only better in every way, he's considerably bigger.

If he does fight Arce I won't be a fan of his any longer.

People rag on Manny for fighting scrubs like Clottey and Plasterito, but at least they were considerably bigger than him.

Nonito is fighting overmatched guys half his size.
