Average movie, with a very disappointing, "ending," IMO.

It isn't a disappointing ending as there will be another movie to follow on from that ending. It was superb. I especially liked the part where Caesar screams out "nooooooooooooooo". That bit was epic.

Who cares? I hope they do make more sequels, since it was a good movie. Color me hijacked!

Really what was so disappointing about the ending? The fact they didn't show everyone die?

In the post-credit scene, it shows the airline pilot arriving at work, who is infected by the virus. The camera pans to a filled flight-status display board, then fades into a stylized flight map animated with blooming trajectories, implying the worldwide spread of a global ALZ-113 pandemic.

Was a very good ending if you ask moi.

I understand they want to make further movies --- but this isn't Lord Of The Rings. The ending was just too cynical for me. It made the movie feel incomplete (which it is). I have no dramas at all with opening the door for a sequel with the way you write your endings, but to specifically end the film without any kind of decent finish, that just makes me feel cheated.

I've never been especially interested in the franchise, & this film, which was neither particularly good or bad, finished in a way which makes me resent the idea of seeing any more films.

    how was it incomplete?
it showed a huge group of super intelligent apes escaping to safety

how else could it possibly have finished

    You're kidding, aren't you?

It didnt, "finish," at all. It just screamed at the audience, "to be continued," which I just find very cynical.

Like I said, by all means leave the door open for another movie, but this was totally beyond that. All I could think about walking out was that Id never give the films producers one more cent watching another POTA movie.

End the flick with the full takeover, and then make another movie with events between that and Heston's landing. End it with Caesar dying, and the Apes taking over in his honour. I dont know. Anything.

Just dont promise me a movie and so flagrantly deliver an episode. The film was okay, but nowhere near interesting enough to get away with that for me.

To illustrate, look at Batman I off the top of my head. The movie ends with the Joker dying. Now, theres plenty of room for a sequel, but it doesnt roll credits with Jack Nicholson dangling over the building, does it? It has its own closure, without spoiling any chance of a sequel. Thats a movie. POTA is an episode.

Does that make things clearer or no?

finally saw it. disappointed. it's basically a well-financed b-movie, imo. lots of melodramatic plot developments with no emotional weight at any point. the only impressive thing was the andy serkis/special effects performance as caesar. the story, characters, pacing, and everything else was off. :boo:

clearly a lot of people liked it though, so that's good.

I actually agree with your synopsis in that a lot of stuff was "off." For instance I feel if this film had been done in the 80's when people knew what they were doing and didn't have CGI there to make them phone it in, it would have been twice as good.

That said I was still able to enjoy the film dispite it's flaws and or short comings.
