Kelly Pavlik was arrested for DUI last night following an ATV accident in Ohio

Despite being the furious machine of pure negativity that he is, I can't help but like Neilgro. At least he has a sense of humour unlike our resident angry little muslim.

 

I kind of expected him to relapse b/c he seemed in total denial about his alcohol issues a little while ago.

His family had two different interventions and he still tried to downplay everything. All he said was "by the program's definition I am a alcoholic" and then would basically say "I would've gotten really bad, but I stopped before that happened".

If your family has 2 different interventions in you, chances are you have a serious problem.

 

It is sad. Poor Kelly is going down a dark path of self destruction. Its pretty apparent at this point that his career (as a top level fighter) is over. But I hope he can get his LIFE together. I hate to agree with Irish on this point, but I wouldnt be surprised to hear of a Pavlik suicide at some point. Theres obviously SOMETHING in his life that has him depressed enough to continually get shit faced.

Still, I was just trying to make the point to REED. Kessler is, and always was better than Pavlik.

Booze is a curse. Its insidious. Its the process. "I'm just....having a drink". Nobody is able to sit there and say..."I'm just putting junk in my arm". Kelly is in denial. He's got the same issues Roy does, its all upstairs, mental, Roy thinks he can come back, Kelly thinks he can shake it off, Evander thinks its still possible.....maybe Kelly needs God or something, swap one addiction for another.

I had heard Neil was Mormon and hailed from the Western Chinese province of Uighurstan.

He's probably the biggest wiggest here. I think Trey-KO and Bug Eyed Earl were rocking Wig's too.

 

Other than power, theres basically NO other advantage Pavlik had over Kessler. And even his edge in power isnt by much.

Kessler had by far a better defense, and would be able to avoid many of Kelly's slow 1-2'. And Kessler has the CHIN to take what does land.

Pavlik on the other hand would be getting hit with just about all of Kessler's combinations.

 

Kessler to me is the better boxer. Quicker hands, better jab than Pavlik, and a smarter fighter overall.

The first 5 rounds I would argue he had a slight edge over Joe Calzaghe in their fight before Calzaghe adjusted and just took over. But I would argue that Kessler early on was getting the better of it and he was able to keep Joe from getting into his rhythm, and caught him coming in a few times with counter right hands and uppercuts.

I have no doubts he would figure out Pavlik pretty easily and outbox him for a UD or possible late rounds stoppage.

Maybe Kessler was a bit overrated but IMO he's a better fighter than Pavlik ever was.

 

I laugh at the fact that so many writers believed that Pavlik was truly reformed, just because his manager said so. The guy has proven to be among the most ungrateful boxing "stars" in recent memory, and keeps TALKING about how he's ready for a career revival but hasn't come close to showing it.

As I wrote a few months ago and still stand behind every word of it - good riddance, Kelly Pavlik. You had your shot but squandered every last opportunity you had. Get yourself better but time to give this up on whatever boxing dreams remain.

 

Kessler has Some "GIVE" In him that U're Failing to Acknowledge, Brother X...Kessler ISN'T the Most Mentally STRONG Fighter Out There & has Looked Every Bit as INEPT in Pressure Situations as Pavlik Did vs. Bernard...

But the Thing is, Even as Pavlik was SKILLFULLY Overmatched by Bernard & Sergio Martinez, he NEVER Capitulated Mentally...Whereas, Kessler's TACITLY Given Up in Bouts w/Calzaghe & Ward...If Pavlik's Determination NEVER Waned vs. BHop & Serge, it's NOT Gonna Wane vs. Kessler Either...& Kessler's Considerably More HITTABLE than Hopkins or Martinez EVER were....

REED Could Definitely See Kessler POCKETING More Rounds, but REED thinks Pavlik would Come Out Victorious in LESS than 12...OR, he'd Hurt Kessler BAD Enough &/or Score Enough Knockdowns to EVEN OUT the Round Discrepancy...

I agree with you. I once quite liked Pavvles, along with REED, but now I find it hard to even feel sorry for him, and the main reason for that is him being so bitter and ungrateful. Crazy.

 

Pavlik would sooner bitch and moan than get in the ring with Kessler. Pavlik's problem is he's allowed his success to go to his head. I doubt he's depressed about anything in particular - justthe that everythinghis isn't goinga his way.

 

I was big on Pavlik for a while, during his Shobox/Versus days onward. Loved it when he beat Miranda and then when he got off the floor to knock out Taylor. Thought he'd be great for the middleweight division and the sport itself.

Then came his God-awful reign and ridiculous sense of entitlement. Just a huge letdown.

From one human to another, I hope gets his life in order. Beyond that, his credit is used up as far as I'm concerned.

Some of it might stem from the Graziano-esque acclaim he received when he took the title. HBO were all over his nuts, as were Boxing Monthly with this "Star is Born" stuff.

 

Serious? For starters, his running around acting as if he's still MW and any kind of draw.

 

Pavlik was on an atv. It's far from getting a dui in an automobile both in actual seriousness and it would be in perceived seriousness, but around here Pavlik seems to have developed a hater faction.

also, depending on how long it took for the cops to get to his house, it's relatively easy (perhaps not objectively easy) to beat a dui if you go home and have a few.

See, that part is something with which Top Rank has a major problem. He and his manager convinced Arum that he is clean and sober, and rededicated to his career. Top Rank fronted him living expenses to relocate to California to train with Garcia, on the promise that he's clean.

You can twist it any way you want to paint Pavlik as the victim, but the truth is anything but that.

 

Fellas, alcoholism is a disease. Kelly has it. Its not something you turn on and off. It might be best that Kelly fights 5 times a year, even if they are all cans, just to keep him occupied and away from the sauce. Downtime for people like Kelly and Johnny Tapia is not advisable.

 

Yep. I don't think many "hate" Pavlik, its more so he's been dismissed.
