It absolutely is not a disease. I have heard it all. When I was in high school, I drank a 6 pack a day. As soon as I needed a job, I stopped drinking. I drank literally for 600 days straight and stopped. I have done nearly all drugs. You are born a loser or you are not. If you took Alcohol away from a so called alcoholic they'd still be fucking losers. I would love to set up drug dependancy centers for people who need a higher power. I would shuttle them into ovens. Nothing worse than these losers and there sick fantasies, blaming fermented yeast for their defects in character. To the ovens they should go. I'll cure Pavlik, just get the governor to commute my sentence. He just needs a quick led shot to the temple.

Then you weren't an alcoholic. An alcoholic is not somebody who drinks a lot. An alcoholic is somebody who cannot control their drinking once they start. An alcoholic might be somebody who gets uncontrollably drunk every Christmas day, or drinks themselves quietly into a stupor once a week. Its the control element that counts. Kelly doesn't have it. Hence the lamp-post pinball.

Wrong. There is no such thing as an alcoholic. It is a social construct. It does not exist in biology. A disease is something that is pathological. If you have herpes of the anus, like kneel, you can take medication to subdue the symptoms. If Alcoholism were really a disease it would be identifiable and treatable. Alcoholism is a cloak for anti-social criminals by another name.

 

Addictions are demonstrable. This isn't the female orgasm we are talking about here. An addict is somebody who displays withdrawal symptoms when the drug is, well, withdrawn.

Diseases of the mind, are they identifiable? Not always. Are they treatable? Not always. But they remain diseases nonetheless.

Addiction definitely has biological/genetic origins for the vast majority of people who become abusers of substances. To suggest otherwise is angry quackery.
