I didn't realize when this topic was active, but have since learned that Johnson was chosen as a 1st ballot HOFer over Naseem Hamed.

It's hard to comprehend how blatantly wrong this is and on how many levels it is wrong. That a majority or plurality of voters could pick Johnson over Hamed strains all reason and credibility in the process and in the HOF. It would be akin to choosing Tebow over Rodgers as the nfl mvp.

Pretty sure I was the biggest Hamed fan out of everyone on this forum, and I have no problem saying Too Sharp was flat out a better fighter than Naz.

The ship has crashed and you gents are arguing whether its better to have lost an arm or a leg in the impact.

The fact that either Johnson or Hamed could be considered for first-ballot status is just one of many indictments into how absurdist and cynical the voting system has become.

Well I'm pretty sure that I was the biggest Johnson fan out of everyone on this forum, and I have no problem saying Hamed could wipe his ass with Too Slap's face and still deserve induction into a legitimate HOF about 12 decades before Johnson.

johnson beating the fuck out of a guy everything thinks was the best in that division has plenty of relevance.

Not when it stacks upto Wilde's accomplishments.

The victory youre espousing isnt even a highlight, its a centrepiece of Johnson's career.

Thats frankly a pitiful, pitiful CV for a 1st-ballot HOFer. Understand that Im not here trying to denigrate Johnson, but rather the selection process (last year's class included Kostya Tszyu and Mike Tyson as 1st-ballot entrants and a fucking actor, for instance).

That kind of argument is never, has never, will never be a criterion for HOF induction.

Whether right or wrong, your point is utterly immaterial.

as is any opinion you have on the caliber of fighter johnson was, since you admittedly never saw him fight in his prime.

my mistake, you specialize in rating fighters you never watched fight in their primes.

More fantasy Neil. Dont address my counter-point, whatever you do.

And AGAIN, my target here is induction today, not Johnson...so go easy on the, "Stand by your man," offensive.

you admitted before you have hardly seen any of johnson's fights. if you care to dispute that then feel free to list the ones youve seen.

I said Id seen four of his full fights, which is not a lot, Im happy to concede (more than zero, if you do your math), but I will state right now, unequivocally, that IN NO WAY is Johnson a 1st-ballot HOFer.

The point you seem to miss (intentionally, youre not so dense you dont comprehend my point), is that HOF entry has its foundations in WHAT YOU ACCOMPLISHED IN THE RING --- Not how well you may or may not have fared against legends and contemporaries you never actually fought.

Believe me, Id like a statue in Mexico City of Ricardo Lopez, with a plaque underneath reading, "This was the greatest Mexican talent and technician in the country's history," and to see him ranked above Chavez, Sanchez, etc...I honestly think he mayve been greater than those guys --- but at a certain point, CV counts, and counts BIG. Im sure REED would like similar recognition for Roy Jones, but whilever people remember other super-gifted guys like Archie Moore or Ezz Charles --- who have TWENTY TIMES the resume of Jones, its the backseat for him, and guys like Johnson and Lopez should be in the same boat.

You are lacking in maturity to blindly cheer a fave fighters induction. Id be embarrassed if De La Hoya made it in on his first attempt, and dont you dare tell me his CV is less deserving than Johnson's.

reading about boxers you have never seen and comparing resume's is for clowns. i am a fan of WATCHING boxing. my eyes are the ultimate judge of ability.

lopez could have easily proved himself going up to 110lbs to face johnson, and then he would have had a victory to hang his hat on. he chose the path of least resistance.

Oscar should absolutely be a first ballot Hall of Famer, and he will be.

He will be, because its a big photo-op and publicity circus for the Hall and the clowns who run it, ala Tyson and his oh-so-predictable instant induction. Not because De La Hoya deserves it. He doesnt.

And for damn sure Johnson didnt.

i dont know or care about who deserves what, but johnson was a better fighter than delahoya and would have beat his ass if they happened to be the same weight at the same point in time.
