Just thought I'd start a poll to get the general opinion of the board.

A retarded waste of life known as loadedgloves thinks that Floyd is actually still a lightweight, or rather is the same size as a lightweight.

This is because he stays lean and doesn't balloon up much between fights, or put on much weight between the weigh in and fight night.

So the question is, could Floyd make 135 as comfortably as an average size lightweight such as Guerrero?

Now, probably not. He could do 140, I bet

135 is tougher... he hasn't had to do that in years and he's not 27 anymore

I think he would have a tough time making 140. He could do it, but not as easily as someone who, you know, has actually made 140 within the past 6 years

He has grown into welter somewhat, I was surprised him and Shane looked exactly the same size in the ring. Shane is also a smallish welter, but still a welter, he doesn't look out of place at the weight. I thought he'd be clearly bigger than Floyd.

It was really suprising in that fight

I always think of Floyd has basically a light weight but Shane was not much bigger than him and Floyd actually had the snappier punches

    Floyd seemed giant against JMM
    He was bigger than Mosley
    Bigger than hatton
    Bigger than judah
Pbf likes a strength advantage to be impressive. Which is why he likes to fight the small guys. People think his style means a strength advantage is unimportant but in fact its key to his forearm spacemaker and his righthand/head push down combination.

If he went to the extreme weight cutting lengths some guys go to I guess he maybe could. He walks around at 150 odd he likely has some wiggle room to play with. It'd weaken him though.

He can't. He couldn't even make the weight against Marquez

He maybe able to make 140 and that wont be easy. 135 is out of the question IMO.

I used to like watching Castillo fight. He had a rare ability to deal with speed using exceptional timing and feinting.

Nobody was calling him the best fighter in the world. Nobody was picking him to beat every welterweight in history.

What's the matter? You wish I'd stop hating PBF?

And I'm pointing out why a double standard is perfectly appropriate, given that one of the fighters in question is hailed as the greatest and the other has never even been in the conversation.

Other than maybe Sly, no one is hailing Floyd as the greatest.

Nonetheless. He's no less than #2 on people's P4P lists, and he's one, if the not the biggest attraction in boxing right now.

That may be so. But he's doesn't measure up to the standards we reserve for excellent fighters.

I'm already punking you in the other thread. It's funny you claim I'm ducking this thread when this thread and it's argument we're both formed by you in an attempt to distract from the verbal asskicking you've been receiving.

Anyway, no lightweight who weighs 150 in the ring makes 135 easily. Yet, most of them do it. Could Floyd do it easily? No, nobody does. Could Floyd do it with roughly the same degree of difficulty as lightweights who weigh the exact same or more than him in the ring? I'd love to see an argument as to why he couldn't, I invite anyone here to provide it.

You don't have the capability to issue a verbal asskicking to anyone on this site. You're too stupid, and have no idea what you're talking about. You think Floyd is a lightweight.

Why he couldn't do it is simple. He'd lose muscle. Lightweights who fight at lightweights wouldn't lose muscle, they'd lose fat and water.

He weighs in at a ripped 147, no fucking way he has 12 pounds of fat and water to lose.

I guess you'd have to be as dumb as, well, you, to think he'd make 135 as easily as the lightweights who actually fight at lightweight.

Floyd's 35 Years of Age & HASN'T Made the 135lb Limit Since Facing N'Dou Back in the 2003, Dude...There's NO Chance of him Getting THAT Low Again...@ the SAME Age, Roy Jones Moved to Heavy for ONE Fight, yet was NEVER the Same Again when he Moved Back Down to Lightheavy for his Very Next Fight...& Roy was an UNDERsized Lightheavy @ That...

A Guy like Brandon Rios, who just LOST his Title on the Scales, would Make 135 EASIER than Floyd Would...

Even forgetting his age, which would be a major factor, just fucking look at Floyd at a 147 pound weigh in. He's lean and ripped.

The average lightweight moving upto 147 looks like Marquez did against Floyd.

I honestly can't believe anyone would even entertain the idea of Floyd making lightweight.

Floyd is simply unusual in his weight habits, he doesn't gain much. He still wouldn't even make 140 as easily as the average 140 pounder like Bradley.

There's a difference between not making weight and not "wanting" to make weight.

  28. loadedgloves

    loadedgloves "Twinkle Toes" McJack

OK, let's break this down in simple terms:

    - Floyd weighs 148-150 in the ring for his welterweight fights.

    - Lightweights weigh 148-150 in the ring for their lightweight fights.

    - In order to perform at their peak, an athlete must be fully hydrated. Disputing this fact is like disputing that the earth is round.

    - The human body is composed of bone, water, muscle, and fat. The latter two also contain water as a major component to different degrees (muscle = ~70% water, fat = ~20% water).

    - Floyd weighs in at 147, he fights at 148-150. The extra weight he gains is water. 1-2 lbs of water weight is not a result of significant and purposeful dehydration, it is likely the result of skipping his morning meal and/or being in a mildly glycogen depleted state.

So we know Floyd is not dehydrated at the weigh-in, because his ring weight is close to the same on fight night. Most 140 lbers are.

    Let's take a simple example -

    Floyd - 149, hydrated
    Timothy Bradley - 149, hydrated

    Floyd - does not dehydrate
Timothy Bradley - dehydrates to 140

But since we slap the "welterweight" label on Floyd, according to your logic that magically alters Floyd's body to make it impossible for him to lose 9 lb of water to make 140 as easily as Timothy Bradley.

On the subject of Floyd making lightweight -

First, it is entirely possible for an adult male who weighs 148 lbs fully hydrated to cut 13 lbs of water without losing any muscle. Saunas, sodium loading/cycling and carbohydrate manipulation can be used to achieve this naturally, there are herbal and synthetic solutions for this as well. If you have ever made weight, as you claim but I don't believe since you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, you would know this. If you were capable of thinking, you would realize that you were saying that either

    a) Guys who make 135 and then weigh in at 150 the next day are gaining muscle back in 24 hours

    or

    b) Labelling yourself as being in a division magically changes how much water one can cut from their body in spite of weighing exactly the same.

Secondly, most guys who make 135 certainly do lose muscle in the process, it's impossible for even a total fatass to come down from 165-170 lbs to 135 without losing muscle. For MOST guys, this is an accepted and inevitable part of making weight, again something you would know if you had ever made weight.

Again, Floyd certainly has put on muscle since his days at 135, when he weighed 138 in the ring. If he weighs 148 in the ring now, that means he's put on about 10 lb of it. To make lightweight then, he would now need to lose 13 lb of water vs 3. What you are saying is that this is impossible. That is dumb. It is certainly more difficult than losing 3 lbs, but it is not impossible.

As for your original postulation that it would be difficult for Floyd to make 140, this whole conversation has demonstrated how moronic that idea is, and even you've backed away from it.

If it was easy to him, he would have done it. He couldn't however and thus had no intention of pushing himself

Yes, because we know Floyd is a frugal and financially prudent guy who doesn't mind cutting water.
