I've played a few football games "relaxed" and didn't have the nervousness or adrenaline dump. From a workout perspective, anything that dulls pain is helpful. Again, I won't argue with anyone who has a different opinion, because everyone is different. My little brother, albeit relaxed, tends to forget plays after leaving the huddle and doesn't take the game quite as seriously. Neither of those things is helpful!!
