Out of the three title fights coming up in the next couple months which one are you looking forward to the most ? Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans ? Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen ? JDS vs Alistair Overeem ? I have a feeling most people will go with Sonnen versus Silva in Brazil ? I would undoubtedly say the same but after the Bisping fight I for some reason am not as excited as before. It's probablly because I want my challangers to appear clearly #1 in the divison when about to take the undefeatable champions but it is what it is. Having said Sonnen still has the style to give Anderson hell so I will stick with this fight as my number #1. Number 2 would be JDS vs Overeem which will be a fun one round stand up war with JDS shattering the glass Number 3 is Jones vs Rashad. I for some reason just don't buy the whole "beef" between them. It kinda feels fake to me but oh well I will be pulling for Rashad because Jones is a little too damn cocky lately. He needs to be humbled.
JDS/Overeem to me. Like you said, the other 2 beefs seem manufactured. The other 2 fights could also very well be boring, because they involve wrestlers.
I'll puss out and say they are all equally must-see. Sonnen vs Silva 2 would be the winner if their first fight had been juice-free. Fuck Sonnen. I hope Silva embarrasses him this time. Jones is probably my favorite guy to watch right now and Evans is the last, best hope to beat him at 205. After this fight, assuming a rematch isn't warranted, nobody except Silva figures to have a decent chance to beat Jones. Similarly, the heavyweight is also the last, best fight in the division. I suppose that cheating fuck Barnett or Cain could make for an interesting opponent, but Jones moving up is the only marquee matchup if a rematch isn't warranted, imo.
Jones would be fun to see in the HW division, but I dont think He will do as well. He wont have any physical advantages there like he does in LHW. He will bring some excitement though.
JDS vs Alistair Overeem will probably be the best fight but looking forward most to Silva-Sonnen in the hopes it can have a satisfying finish.
I am looking most forward to JDS-Overeem. Both guys are typically aggressive strikers so it will very interesting to see which, if either, alters his approach because of the power of the other guy. In other words, which of them pulls a Carlos Condit. Second would be Jones-Evans. I don't care about the "beef". It's just a good match-up between the best guys at the weight. And Evans is the only top guy left, outside Dan Henderson, that Jones hasn't crushed. It won't be an easy fight for Jones as Evans has the tools to make it difficult. Lastly, personally I don't think Sonnen-Silva II will happen.
I wont speak for TRP, but also feel it might not come off. I think silva doesnt want to fight Sonnen again. He knew he barely pulled off a win last time and i dont think he wants to go through the hell of another fight with him.
Sonnen off the juice is a different fighter. Sure he ran through Stann, who isn't that good, but he got a gift against Bisping.
Yeah, the bottom line is that Anderson's take down D absolutely sucks. He's just been lucky enough NOT to fight great wrestlers in his career. Juiced or not, Sonnen will be able to take Silva down. Now the question is whether he gets caught with a punch, kick or knee beforehand. And once he gets Silva down, can he avoid the sub? Silva will have his hands completely full even without the juiced version of Sonnen in my opinion. And that is exactly the reason I don't think the fight will happen. I honestly don't think Silva wants to return from injury and immediately face Sonnen.
Why does a natural fighter like Silva suck so much at that one thing? Seems like the kind of athlete who should be able to get good at something like that.
But if it takes an elite level wrestler to get him down why would that mean his take down defense 'sucks'?
With the exception of Dan Henderson, who used to be an elite wrestler, I wouldn't qualify any of Silva's other UFC's opponents as even 'good' wrestlers. And even Henderson is only an average MMA wrestler at this stage. I was hyperbolizing by saying Silva's take down defense sucks. Sonnen is among the best at taking guys down so it's probably an unfair barometer. That being said, Silva looked absolutely horrible in trying to stop Sonnen's shots. I think Sonnen was something like 9 out of 10 in take down attempts. I have no problem with retracting my statement. Bitch.
Yeah it seemed like sarcasm to me too. Unless im missing something. TRP is a trusted advisor so lets see.
