147 would be Floyd-Shane no? Shane was the champ and Floyd was clearly number 1.

Mosley may have been the linear champ - but i think everyone was rating Pacquiao and Floyd as #1 and #2 at the time.

Whatever. It was contracted for 135. Point is, two best lightweights fought. Interesting that three people want to basically have a debate about nothing and go to the trouble, but don't comment on the actual topic.

Why does everyone keep saying mosley/wright. Mosley hadn't done shit at 154.

I still say that Froch and Ward were no.1 and no.2 when they fought. I agree that they are not on the level of the 2007 168 unification bout, but it was what it was IMO

Pacquiao beat a 154lber at 147 in Oscar and Clottey. Shane was the ring champ and Floyd was the ring champ before that.

Well, Kessler was retired/absent/off doing something else, Taylor was gone, Abraham was on a hot losing streak, Johnson had lost to Froch, Ward had beaten Kessler, Froch had beaten Dirrell......:dunno: It does seem like #2 vs #1 or #1 vs #2 whatever way it is sliced. Its the absence of Bute and Kessler which seals it, if you feel that way, both absences being self-enforced. Personally, I'd still have Bute being better than Froch, but we are into an argument of better fighter vs better-ranked fighter, and that gets very messy and confrontational very quickly.

Why bother going down that route? We will have our answer sooner rather than later now that Bute and Froch are fighting.

Because Kessler was just injured. With a recent legit win over Froch and no losses since, it would be wrong to have Froch rated above him, yes?

Maybe yes and maybe no. In any case, with Froch about to fight Bute, there is no need to discuss it. Winner of that fight is #2 at the very least.

    :crafty: Ahhhh,..

4th and 5th is around the right jostling point,.. but atleast Froch has proven his notch,..but it does so happen by default that Bute can be slotted one above, or one below, ....either way, we'll find out who's the best gate-keeper soon enough.

Gotta keep it supple, the tall guy said it best when he ranted about "options open, bases covered" It's a heavy cavalry now round here, and the fox needs to keep his rollbahns open. Gots to keep the korridors open. Last thing I want is to be getting pincered outside some obscure Russian township.

When Dirrell slides his shaft up Kessler's wife he'll become an absolute legend.

I dont think Froch much likes an under-arm to the bird cage, and that's where a black-faced pick wielder like Bute, will be buisy mining for yams. I expect the royal nottingham knee for this one.

Aye...lets suppose that happens, now then, now then, with Canada not being a pimple on a Yankees Arse {I hope not, says the Canuck} where does Booty figure with the Spitter of Shields???? That smells of Oakland, but not even a Gippo and his pony want to go sluicing for nuggets down there for fear of getting an arseful of pyrites in return.

Williams was still at 147... technically. He was about a month or two removed from the quintana rematch and was calling out the winner. However he never again fought at 147.

    126 - Pac-Marquez I
    130 - Pac-Marquez II
    135 - Marquez-Diaz*
    140 - Tszyu/Mitchell II
    147 - Mayorga/Forrest II (or maybe Spinks/Mayorga)
    154 - Wright/Mosley II
    160 - Pavlik/Taylor
    168 - Calzaghe/Kessler**
    175 - Pascal/Dawson
    200 - Adamek/Cunningham
    Hvy - Lewis/Rahman II

    * - On Marquez/Diaz, I name that fight only because Campbell was over limit against Funeka (two weeks prior) and already announced he was moving up to 140

** - On Calzaghe/Kessler, I see the argument for Ward/Froch - Kessler pulled out of S6 and only had one tune up fight from Froch win until that night (span of 21 months). Inactivity removed him from ranks, didn't feel his one win justified #2 spot (behind Ward)

my last Ring magazine is after Floyd vs. Mosley happened (one month after!) so i am not sure where The Ring rated them... but are we going blindly off of the Ring rankings? Consensus didn't have Floyd and Mosley #1 and #2, i don't think.

Tho i can't prove it. But i don't think Fightnews had them 1 and 2. Certainly was not the consensus.

Not sure about your 154 pick. After arguably losing to Oscar, then losing to Wright himself, Mosley was considered the 2nd best fighter at 154?

Not sure about Rahman Vs Lewis 2 either, doesn't seem right. I dunno, maybe an argument could be made, Lewis was considered #1 and Rahman just flattened him, making it arguable they were the top 2.

Rahman was the champ, Lewis was the #1 contender. About as top two as it gets.

On 154 - I guess the argument can be made that Ouma was ranked higher than Shane at the time.

I'm sure there's an asterisk behind your leaving out that Pac also fought Cotto in between then (catchweight), but it's still a welterweight fight.

Shane wasn't Ring champ at the time of the Floyd fight. And if you want to nitpick, he also hadn't fought in 15 months by the time the Floyd fight rolled around. For that matter, Floyd's win over Marquez was his only welterweight fight (and only fight in general) in 2 1/2 years prior to facing Shane.

On Rahman, yeah I guess so, just seems odd. I guess for a small period of time he was the #1 in the division.

Not really, just the season ending ones and then select others. Haven't bought one in a long time though, and never even personally received/read the issues to which I contributed articles (two issues late last year)
