Gamboa should be able to exploit the massive advantage he enjoys in speed... My only concern in picking him is his discipline in the ring... He is a cocky little SOB and he's gotten caught pulling a lot of hands-at-the-sides, chin-in-the-air bullshit... He has to be more focused against a guy this big and strong. But it's there for him to win... bang-bang-bang and get out... I'm willing to take a small of leap of faith that Gamboa sees this as a great opportunity and shows up with a strict gameplan, the fight is very important to him. Gamboa by impressive unanimous decision is my pick

I see Gamboa making Rios look like fool in this one.

I don't know, I saw his as too reckless to last long and succeed. He was floored frequently by sub-par opponents and his lack of proper fighting style just had be thinking he was more flash than substance. He proved me wrong, he's legit.

Gulf in class overcomes gulf in size. As long as he doesn't get careless and caught, Gamboa should school Rios.

I can't see this fight as easy to pick. It is the best fight on paper in years as far as I am concerned. Perfect mesh of styles. Rios is skilless and powerful. gAMBOA IS tiny and skilled. I could see a Chavez/taylor I scenario hopefully without the corruption.

I don't think that Gambo hands down style gonna matter, as rios is more a beat down kind of guy, than a 1 punch ko artist. If rios come in like he did against murray he gets lit up like a cheap smoke, if he comes relentless like he was afainst antillon, he beat up Gamboa late.

    great fight

Yeah definitely an interesting fight, and hopefully Rios's big size advantage is somewhat nullified by him making the weight.

The thing with Gamboa is that he DOES get hit. But he's never faced anyone with the size, power, and pressure that Rios is gonna bring. Its just hard for me to see little Gamboa withstanding the pressure of a guy who's really a natural welterweight, for all 12 rounds. Even if he runs all night. He's gonna get pinned on those ropes eventually and Rios can just muscle him around however he wants, so clinching on Gamboa's part won't be effective.

And I don't see him dealing with the power all that well. His chin is still a question mark but that aside, the size difference is just way too much IMO.

If gamboa loses he can always move down untarnished to 135 and contend there. It's a smart, calculated risk with a lot more upside than down. Plus he's aging and big opportunities are few at the moment. Plus I'm sure his team has learned the dangers of waiting around with Lopez.

I wonder more about the wisdom on rios' part.

You have to be kidding? Why would he do that, and why is the fight in jeopardy, is it rumoured he wants to pull out or something?

You gotta get on Twitter MWS. It's obnoxiously gay but it's full of info.

But yeah, Gamboa didn't show up today and the fight is probably done for. Fuck.

That fucking sucks. I was looking forward to this fight more than any other in the near future.

Why done for though? I mean, why would they nix the fight for one no show unless there's more to the story?

And twitter is super gay, but yeah, I guess it can be useful. Who like "twittered" this bit of into or something?

Damn! I just spent yesterday trying to convince people at work that this was the fight they should be most looking forward to. Any concrete details as to why yet?

    Yeah he didn't show.

And down here in South Florida there has been non stop talk that he may pull out in spite of the fact that he already SIGNED THE CONTRACT(He signed it 2 weeks after Rios did or something to that extent).

    Something's not right.

They've already sold close to 5000 tickets. There's a presser scheduled for LA tomorrow, I guess it's a wait and see situation.
