When Mike Spinks fought Tyson, he was the lineal champ. He had fought one of the world's best heavyweights (out of say the top 6 or 7) two years earlier, yet he was the "legit" champ, going by Lineage

Never mind that he was basically the 7th or 8th best heavyweight in the world and that Mike Tyson was clearly number one. That is a classic example of lineage being anything but legit

Who's the best fighter? Lineage in the era of the sanctioning bodies seldom answers that question.

Honestly, it's no more a good example of legitimacy than having one of the 3 (or 4, depending on how you view the WBO at a given time in history) alphabet straps

I mean, Shannon Briggs... lineal champ... at best, a lower to mid top ten heavyweight in his prime

Be it, as it may, and 'bee' it as the mayfly,.. your scoring, underwent a little deregulation for Khan - Peterson, :eek:hno: I know it's boring to mention,..but you usually take good account of your platform before you carpet bomb the jungle.

In fairness to Peterson, he worked hard that night, harder than Bernard has worked in a decade or more.

:eek:hno: Slippery, slippery, slippery,..Boxingtalk scored it for Peterson, because he came forward. They scored Vitali - Chisora a draw, because Chisora came forward, Boxingtalk scores every Mayweather fight 120 - 106, rewarding him for going backwards.

    Agendas all round :nono: ,..

Paul Williams was still at welterweight at the time. True, he split two fights w/ Carlos Quintana, but still had the win over Margarito less than a year prior. Nothing that Margarito had done to that point warranted leapfrogging him.

If Williams was still at 147 then you're absolutely right. In which case I would change my vote to THE welterweight championship being vacant.
