There is no way they could have kept the pace they incrementally got to. It certainly was a mistake for Lopez. He was exausted when he came out the last round.

Great fight. How bout them Bourica FANS?? Viva Puerto Rico!!

    Jim Grey, what a cunt!

Way to delve deeper into the ramblings of a concussed fighter.

I talked to Marlon Starling a few months ago. He still doesn't remember that little gem of an interview he gave to Larry Merchant after the Molinares fight.

Someone, anyone at Top Rank or PR Best Boxing could've pulled the plug on that interview at any time. Grey has every right to challenge a comment like that, fighter concussed or not.

Starling merely didn't remember being KO'd. Understandable. Ortiz even talked stupid shit about being too pretty to be hit after the Maidana fight. Fine (even though he's since proven to be THAT goofy).

JuanMa's remarks were pretty damn specific, and claimed he protested the appointment prior to the fight. He also recalled the first fight last year. Hardly the ramblings of a fighter who didn't know where he was or what he was saying.

I'm sorry, but I have a very hard time agreeing with assignment of blame on this one.

What JuanMa said was horrible. Especially considering the judges scorecards and the fact he was on his home turf.

I just have an undying hatred of Jim Grey and I will never pass on any opportunity to express my opinion that he is indeed a "cunt".

Salido was impressive. His punches manage to land even when he seems out of range. And he totally out-slicked Lopez on the inside, having first out-fought Lopez from the outside.

I have to disagree. I have witnessed several athletes, even the more clever ones, saying extremely stupid things when the interview is done right after the matter and especially when the person has suffered a loss or other letdown. It seems that athlete's mind works that way, their mind sets in defensive mode as they try to find whatever explanation they can for the crisis. It takes a while to settle down from that. Added to this that JuanMa probably isn't the smartest guy anyway and that he just got hit really hard, I do think we should cut him some slack for his obvious nonsense

Salido is a bum. Juanma is worse. The fight was entertaining though.

garcia vs salido is a nice matchup. salido is tough enough to take those sharp counters so i think he'd outwork garcia in a close one.

    Here are my 2 cents.

Juanma still has many flaws him and his corner FAILED to correct. He looked terribly SLOW and gassed by the 7th. The result was just like I expected and predicted. Juanma only chance is to rebuild his career with a new corner. Personally I think it's too late and his career is over as a top fighter. Juanma has way too many flaws to correct and after another devastating KO I think he's done!

And another thing, JUANMA IS A SORE FUCKING LOSER!

Salido is far from a bum. In fact, despite looking crude, he has underrated boxing skill.

In every round he was setting traps and feints and landing clean on Lopez. He looked like the more skilled fighter in there, especially inside. Lopez is downright basic.

:atu: at Lopez being ahead on the cards. I also think he only won a round. Unbelievable. Salido was beating the crap out of him more or less every round.

Seems the decision prediction for Lopez was as good as correct, he probably only had to stay on his feet to carry the fight.

Seems a total hype job now, albeit with the benefit of retrospect.

I called him a hype job from day one, and labelled him the most overrated fighter of this generation. I honestly couldn't believe people were picking him over Gamboa when that fight was talked about, even somewhat recently.

Gamboa would flatten him in 4 or 5 one sided rounds.

I'm actually surprised he beat Ponce, I guess it simply showed the one thing he can do at world level, punch.

Good fight, I agree that Lopez only won a round of the fight on the strength of a KD. Salido won every other round. Strong words from Lopez after, but fuck it both fights were stopped early imo. ref could've let him go on for a bit longer and stop it quickly after he proved he couldn't fight back.

can't believe Lopez was ahead on the cards. that would have been a terrible decision

It seems that all one needs now-a-days is to be the next "good" fighter coming out of Mexico or Puerto Rico to get the mad hype. Juanma, Saul Alvarez, Panchito Bojado, Pedro Pena, remember him? I am not sure Juanma could have beaten the like of Ricky Burns at 130 when Burns fought Martinez for the 130lb belt.

Agreed. Although it's highly annoying when guys like Lopez get unwarranted amounts of hype, and hideously overrated, it does have one upside and that's that the highly enthusiastic Mexican and Puerto Rican fans do keep boxing alive and well.

Yeah but Cotto and Oscar could fight- Juan Ma and Canelo can't and neither can this fat fraud JC Chavez Jr. He's the dirt. I see Andy Lee had a routine KO last night, this is the next installment "Streaking Andy Lee faces rising-star JC Chavez in a........" :shit: :shit:

Great fucking fight. Some of you go overboard with Juanma. Sure he didn't turn out to be great but let's not pretend the guy is some bum with no credentials.

He was a two division champ that has only lost to Salido.

As far as the Gamboa comparison. That guy will soon be ko'd and you guys can talk about how over hyped he was also.

doesn't mean these guys have no talent. In the case of Juanma he has flaws. So does Gamboa and he is cocky.

The fact that Salido tested positive for Steroids I question this recent run. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and Koing Juanma in PR was big but I still want to see him with other 126 fighters to see how good he is now.

I think Mickey Garcia can outbox him.

Lopez had a couple decent wins. KO1 Ponce, obviously (although I don't think first round KOs tell you much about a fighter). Also, while certainly not great, Steve Luevano was a decent featherweight.

Lopez looked worse than ever last night. Oddly slow.

I have to say I like Salido.

JuanMa did look a bit bulkier and more muscular then usual. Unless that was just my shitty projection TV on wide zoom.

He's probably on roids to, but it certainly didn't help him out. He looked slower then usual most of the fight.

Fight was a corker though. Exciting from beginning to end. I didn't have to fast forward even once, like I was doing during the completely predictable Mikey Garcia fight. :nono:

Sure he has a couple of decent wins, I'm not saying he's a total scrub, he's just not even close to being as good as people thought. He's average at best, at world level, but people talked about him as if he was an elite fighter.

He ranks alongside Alexander and Arabham as the most overrated contemporary fighters.
