Visa problems knocked out Martin Murray from facing Chavez Jr. on June 16 at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. While the fight was announced just like an hour ago (according to Murray he had already signed to face Chavez Jr), I am glad that this fell through since it was another attempt in the eternal cowardly Chavez Jr plan to avoid Sergio Martinez. Hey, Chavez, Arum: Martinez is available!

Fight was never formally announced. In fact, according to Chavez side they hadn't even yet discussed financial terms.

The only person JCC Jr should be fighting is Martinez.

Ward who? Or are you just wishing he'd get smashed by Andre Ward?

Arum and the WBC are waiting to hear back on Lee's test results. If there's a pulse remaining they'll look for another opponent.

They might bring Mayorga out of retirement or maybe the WBC will rank featherweight Salvador Sanchez II as #1 middleweight.

I read somewhere that Top Rank wants Chavez to sign long term in order to secure a fight in June. He said he is definitely not signing long term just to get the fights they owe him.

Now this fool is playing hardball with Top Rank. :laugh11:

if thats true i dont see how you come to that conclusion. fuck top rank, if thats the case. top rank has done well for a lot of guys, him included. but lets not pretend he owes them shit. he owes everything to his father for where he is right now.

Murray got a draw with Sturm, Macklin lost.

Chavez would have been facing the better man. :nono:

I think he owes his carreer to his father as well as top rank. It's because of Top Rank that he is still undefeated and has a belt. It's because of the ridiculous match making and good promotion that he is a draw.

If he doesn't wanna sign long term is because he is not happy. I can see other guys leaving top rank for something better. But this guy? you gotta be kidding me.

Even when Suleiman is pushing for the Martinez fight Arum makes sure he fights someone else.

I don't like Top Rank either but I can't inmagine why Chavez jr. wouldn't be happy with all the paydays and great promotion they gave him. Hell he's been on a shitload of ppv cards back when he was a prospect.

Agreed. It's not like you're auto superstar just because you have a famous father, there's a shitload of other examples of guys that didn't get anywhere near the attention of Jr.

Top Rank have played their part well.

at first I can see people paying to see the Legend's son and how good he is or will be. But that was a while back. Top Rank did a good job in developing a decent fan base for him with those latin fury cards at the border arenas.

funny though I read Dibella himself saying they are negotiating the Martinez fight.

top rank is the best in the business at building an attraction but they didnt have to do shit with chavez jr. i saw the guy on ppv undercards when he was 16 or 17, with only a few fights under his belt, and there would be more than 8 or 10 thousand people in the arena screaming wildly for him when his name was announced.

I don't disagree he is a draw. But look at his so called championship run. It's because of Top Rank that he has a belt and no losses.

If he fought better competition a while back like he should have he would off got his ass whooped already. He wouldn't be nearly the same draw he is now.

any promoter could pick easy foes for chavez jr. i dont give top rank credit for that. fernando beltran could have done the same exact shit without arum.
