It was BOGUS How Morales Acquired the "Title" Anyways, so it's Fitting that he'd LOSE it on the Scales... REED:shit:
Erik clearly doesn't give a shit about this fight, and this Garcia looks like a pretty solidly built 140 pounder. Anyone seen him fight?
Had he Cut the Extra 2 Lbs, it's VERY Likely...& While he Still May Lose, REED Thinks Morales will Put Forth a BETTER Effort by Virtue of NOT Dropping Anymore Weight... REED:Lok:
REED's Seen him a Couple Times... Solid, Fairly Well Rounded Fighter that ISN'T Great Or Bad in Any Particular Areas...Similar to Tim Bradley in that Regard...He'll NEVER Be as Great as Erik Morales is/was HISTORICALLY, but he's Probably Good Enough to Beat an OLD Erik Morales... REED:Ramonza: REED
If he's even close to being as good as Timmy, he'll definitely beat this version of Morales ;) I'll check him out on youtube anyway, but judging from his record, he'll probably win. Despite doing better than expected against Maidana, Erik has struggled with everyone he's fought since coming back at 140.
I don't know how good is Garcia, but probably is a corpse if the WBC (Worst Boxing Corruptor) allows him to fight Morales. Can any of you seriously give Morales a chance of not being knocked out by Bradley, Khan, Lamont Peterson or Brandon Rios?
he was on a under-card not long ago and seemed formidable, if not tip-top. for a guy as old as morales, though, to be taking on a young undefeated lion - you can't ask for more.
To Be Clear, REED Isn't Saying Garcia FIGHTS Like Tim Bradley, just that they're Similar in the "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" Sense... No Matter How U Slice it, this is THE BIGGEST Fight of Garcia's Young Career & We Won't Know for CERTAIN How he'll React Until he's in the Moment...He's NOT the Biggest Puncher in the World & Morales Very Easily Could LURE Him into a Dogfight... REED:dancingBaby:
REED Wouldn't Favor Morales to BEAT Any of those Names, but Only Rios would Knock him Out, in REED's Opinion...It'd B an Absolute WAR while it Lasted Though, as would Peterson-Morales (to a Lesser Degree)... REED:Lok:
Yep, agreed, and if there's one person not to count out it's Morales. Tough as nails, crafty, skilled, with a shit load of heart and balls. Just a shame he doesn't really have it anymore, physically.
You can ask him to make the contracted weight. But it's a fair point. I'm still looking forward to the fight, since I didn't care about the title to begin with.
Shhhh!!!...Don't Let mikE "Hear" U "Saying" that... But Seriously, Morales' "Reign" was BOGUS to Begin w/...& While Garcia Could Still Become a "World" Champion Upon Winning, the Title Itself was an ANCILLARY Element (@ BEST) to the Fight Itself... REED:Lok:
As always with Morales you can expect some fun moments. I enjoyed watching him break down that poor kid on the Mayweather/Ortiz undercard.
Rios is crap. I doubt even this old shot Morales wouldn't get knocked out by Rios. The version that beat Pacquiao would embarrass Rios and knock him out, though.
Not making a contractually agreed upon catchweight for a fight in a specific weight class and paying the mutually agreed upon penalty is an entirely different thing from not making the weight class. Having said that, I'd give Morales a pass for just about anything at this point, the guy is a fucking living legend. Hope he whoops Garcia's ass.
That was awesome. That kid was physically superior in every possible way, but Morales was more experienced, more skilled, meaner, and just BETTER. It looked like he had no chance early on and was in for a long night, but he managed to pull off the victory and stop the kid. Morales alone made the cost of that card worth it.
Yep, agreed totally. It was really a fight he had no business pulling out. Watched it with an old friend of mine who grew up watching boxing with me and we were into it. I always preferred MAB, but Morales is fucking cool.
How are the two different? A weight class is nothing but a contractually agreed upon weight afterall. What does the money have to do with anything?
Uh, no. A weight class is mandated by the governing authorities of the sport and recognized as universal by all. It is not an agreement between two parties, it is a hard limit mandated by both rules and tradition. A catchweight is simply an agreement between two parties to meet at an unofficial weight. The sanctioning bodies and sport itself don't know or care about the catchweight, they still recognize the bout as being of the official division it is taking place in (eg, everything between 141-147 lbs is a welterweight fight). You have not cheated or violated the rules of the sport itself by not meeting a catchweight. In this case, the possibility of not meeting the catchweight and the penalty for doing so were discussed and agreed upon beforehand.
Both are agreements between three parties: the sanctioning body and both fighters. I don't see how you can judge being over-weight any differently, whether it's a catch-weight or not. If anything, the situation in which a fighter has made arrangements for not making weight (as PBF did) is more shameful because it's a premeditated effort to gain an unfair advantage.
While LIMITED, Rios is Clearly EFFECTIVE...Calling him "Crap" is an Overstatement...@ This Point, he'd OUT "Morales" Morales, in an Entertaining War...Simply Toooo YOUNG, Tooo STRONG, Toooo FRESH... REED:Lok:
Damn, Garcia's last eight bouts have been televised. I know he's not a household name, but stunned to hear boxing junkies claim to have yet to see him fight.
FWIW, most of the fighters looked chiseled, while Morales and Jose Luis Castillo (who was also 2 1/2 lb overweight for his u/c fight v. Jose Miguel Cotto) both looked fleshy.
