I guess this can be a catch-all thread for Bellator's Season 6 events rather than creating a new thread for each one.

Last night was the first round (Quarterfinals) of the season 6 Lightweight tournament. This tournament will decide the first challenger for Michael Chandlers 155 pound belt that he lifted from Eddie Alvarez.

Going into last night, the clear favorite to win the tourney had to be Patricky 'Pitbull' Freire who advanced to last season's final against Chandler. And Pitbull, with career highlight reel knockouts over Toby Imada and Rob McCullough, wasn't just the tournament favorite but also one of the young stars on the very shallow Bellator roster.

Unfortunately now his name can be added to the growing list of MMA fighters that are too stupid to tap before something gets broken or shredded.

In an exciting, back-and-forth fight with Lloyd "Cupcake" Woodard, Pitbull got caught in a nasty kimura midway through the 2nd round. He fought the hold a little too long and didn't tap until AFTER his elbow appeared to dislocate.

In other LW tournament action, US Judo Olympian, Rick Hawn, scored an impressive one-punch knockout over BJJ ace Ricardo Tirloni. Hawn, who lost a narrow decision to Jay Hieron in Bellator's Season 4 Welterweight Tournament, fought at 155 pounds for the first time in his career and seemed comfortable at the weight.

With Pitbull out of the tournament, Rick Hawn likely becomes the tournament favorite.

Also earning spots in the LW tournament semifinals were Brent Weedman and Thiago Michel. Weedman, a veteran of Bellator's last two welterweight tournaments, also dropped down to 155 and had little trouble locking-in a rarely used Von Flue choke to defeat Bellator newbie J.J. Ambrose.

Thiago Michel, a rangy kickboxer with wicked Muay Thai knees, used his range, footwork and superior striking to win a split decision over world class BJJ practicioner, Rene Nazare.

The semifinals now stack up like this:

    Lloyd Woodard versus Rick Hawn
    Brent Weedman versus Thiago Michel

Is it just me, or is it a pride thing for Brazilians to tap to someone not from Brazil?

    It does seem that way.

But it's odd because to me that the more embarrassing thing would be to leave the cage in a sling.

Just tap. Take a bitch slap to your ego but still be able to use your arm the next day. Seriously.
