Today, when HBO shows its upcoming boxing, the next 5 shows will be spread over 10 weeks, at most. In the mid-90's, its next 5 shows would be spread over the next 22 weeks. HBO is much better today.
I don't think he'd ever beat Wlad or Vitali. A few of the other guys fighting now might be able to hang in there with that version of Tua and mess him about a bit, but I'd make him the favourite over most.
If you want to debate it, debate it. steve_dave and cdogg have proven themselves to be completely incapable. Go find a list of all HBO dates from 1994 thru 1996. I can come up with the same list from HBO for the last 3 years pretty easily. If you can't find a list, we can come up with a different way to try to figure it out. Fact is, it won't be that hard because there just weren't that many HBO cards. I don't think they had started KO Nation or BAD by then. What I expect we'll see is that there were some true gems that we all remember fondly and a bunch of shit fights back then and relatively few cards overall. And then people will fail to appreciate everything from the last 3 years because we don't have the nostalgic boost, yet. But, I'm willing to try even without the boost. A quick glance shows that you'll get Foreman/Moorer, Gatti/Rodriguez, and Gatti/Patterson 1.
I list used to exist online, but I can't find it. The thing is, once we get into this, you'll start making a case why clearly inferior matches were better.
Exactly He's a know-nothing chump "Inferior at debating" says the guy who thinks Luis Primera ranks as a big win for Hearns (because he has never heard of him but he had no losses) while Randy Shields doesn't because he'd actually fought real fighters and lost a few (again, he wouldn't know anything about him either) Yeah, HBO is way better when a 1990s USA Network undercard fighter like Kirkland is a big name
How dare you disrespect the great Tuesday Night Fights with the mention of that bum Kirkland! Sean O'Grady KO 1 Kirkland.
Tua I'm MIGHT be even more of a disappointment than Toney or Bowe.. And that is saying a lot! He has no heart and no drive IMO Byrd didn't even realize he could have stopped Tua.. He was hurting Tua with body shots.. Tua didn't even try vs Lemmon Loser
Dunno what you're talking about, I usually agree w/ cdogg on most boxing related topics. I would bitchslap you, but you're not even worth the effort. Seriously, what kind of retarded argument is it that HBO is better now than it was in the 90s because they show more matchups? HBO had tons of quality matchups in the 90s/early 00s.
I would like you to end your own life, please. You can win every debate times 1 million against me, just let there be a happy ending. Kill yourself. Please just die.

HBO is better now because the volume means that there are so many more opportunities to have better fights that it will be better in aggregate. Plus, it's only fair to count blank weekends against HBO. Even BAD shows tend to be pretty decent quality and something is better than nothing. Cripes, now even the 90's are getting the nostalgic boost.
Cripes, surely the 90's isn't as good as this era? I mean, what would HBO worthy 154 pounders in the 90's do with someone like Kirkland for instance?
exactly!! Remember how shitty the Welterweight division was back then??? there were no interesting matchups, the fighters were terrible!!!
