If this was at 160 lbs. I'd tentatively pick Hopkins, but 157 is a total game-changer. I'd go with McCallum

I don't think it makes much of a difference to be honest. Hopkins used to weigh in below 160 all the time... in fact, if memory serves, he weighed in at 157 for the Trinidad fight.

Yeah, the 3lb difference helps McCallum more than it hurts Hopkins. If that makes any sense in fight where they're fighting each other. Which it doesn't.

For the record though, if its the McCallum that slaughtered Michael Watson, then this would be a VERY close fight.

If forced to pick, I'd say Hopkins 7-5, but it really could go either way.

I'm a big fan of both, but a bigger fan of Mike. A true scientist in the business of hurt and not be hurt. Both men are perfect stylistically for each other, neither would have to hunt the other down, I just think McCallum was a shade better at that game.

Mccallum. Hopkins doesn't beat good fighters at least he never did in his prime. His horrific and sham of a middlleweight reign was topped with consecutive losses to jERMAIN TAYLOR:lol::lol:THAT'S RIGHT. Jermain Taylor twice.

    Yet, he beats Mccallum.......FUCK NO

Be a real chessmatch... could go either way. I favor Hopkins by only the slightest margin and without a whole lot of confidence. McCallum wouldn't go for a lot of that hold-and-hit jive. Bernard would need to work hard

Which he wouldn't. He'd find a way to fake an injury. Hopkins is the most overrated fighter in history. He is number 1 OVERRATED. The actual myth here is Hopkins fighting Mccallum at all. If he did, he make him move up to 176.25 pounds and fight in an 80 foot ring. If Hopkins were in a close fight, he'd quit.Bernard beat either smaller fighters or a younger generation of fighters like Pavlik or Pascal who frankly cannot fight for shit especially on the inside. I doubt Hopkins beats any great fighter that was around middleweight. The young guys he beats are scrubs compared to Mccallum. The p4p #3 guy today Sergio pUSSY, literally doesn't know how to fight at all on the inside not one bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he beat Dawson, who cannot fight at all either. This thread reminds me how shitty boxing is today.

    Vitali is good.
    Donaire is good.

No other fighters would be good n the 80's. Sorry, boxing is at its lowest.

True. A few other champs would be respectable contenders in the 80s too.

Hopkins is one of those fighters who would not translate well. He dug up graveyards for his 160 reign. It was as bad as the much maligned reigns of Joe Calzaghe or Sven Ottke. At least, Joe and Sven didn't make superfights with 154 pounders and build their legacy on it. The best fighter he fought once his long defenses started was Jermain Taylor. That was the best actual middleweight he fought. He also lost both fights:giggle::giggle: I am not sure why it is but fighters don't know how to fight anymore today most of them. I don't dispute Chad Dawson is a top light heavy. He is. t just saddens me that is a fact. He can't fight at all.

Donaire would be a featherweight in the 80's, and he would get ass raped by the likes of Sanchez, Nelson, Pedroza, Fenech.

Gamboa would fare better against those guys than Donaire.
