Little 5'6 Pryor not just beat but outboxed Hearns?

Seems absolutely insane. Was Hearns much worse as an amateur?

I have it. Pryor beat the shit out of Hearns. Hearns learned how to punch as a pro though. He was just a gangley greasy kid then.Pryor has my favorite style ever.

I remember Steward saying that actually, that Tommy had hardly any power as an amateur, and only turned into a puncher as a pro.

Ike is correct. Pryor was all over Hearns like a cheap suit, he battered him. Pryor was absolutely thrilling.

Pryor did beat Hearns in the amateurs, but Hearns was nowhere near the pro he would become. Who beat who in the amateurs doesn't really hold water for me when discussing the fighters as pros.

I agree. Hearns' style radically changed as well. He was more a lanky boxer instead of the boxer/slugger/destroyer he became. I would have loved to see Pryor fight Hearns or Gay Ray in the pros although he would be a prohibitive underdog against either.

Oh yeah, I agree. He was still way too skinny and weak, no authority on his shots. Different fighter. I probably shouldnt have brought it up, it just popped into my little head

He already had good skill but he looked literally malnourished back then and Pryor bullied him

Hearns only had, just off the top of my head, like 11 stoppages in over 150 amateur wins. He was a completely different fighter as a pro. Although he could revert to that stick and move style when he needed to, as he did against Leonard after getting banged around in rounds 6 & 7.

Yeah, I wouldn't give him much of a shot against either. I could see the Leonard fight being competitive for a while, but I think Pryor would be in over his head (literally) against Hearns and it could quickly turn into a 147 lb Foreman-Frazier...where Pryor gets off the canvas multiple times before getting stopped.

Same here, I've never considered that Pryor would have a realistic shot at any of the Fab 4.

Pryor has a good chance vs anyone at 140.

Definitely. I just can't imagine him doing that well at 147+ Vs the super elites.

I think Pryor vs Duran @ 135 or 140 would be a fantastic fight. Pryor started his career as a Lightweight and moved to 140 because he couldn't get any meaningful fights at 135.

There is no fab 4. Duran doesn't deserve to be in that group and Pryor would skull fuck him. Duran's lack of skill would get exposed. He wouldn't be able to hold and hump a target that moved for 15 rounds. Duran quits or loses a wide ud to Pryor.

Duran would rape Pryor. Too good, too well rounded, too skilled.

    Too good=false,
    too well rounded=false,
oo skilled=absolutely false. Duran's "skill" consisted of fouling, fouling, holding and fouling when he wasn't quitting, of course.

I am no Gay Ray fan but including Duran with the Fab 4 is disgraceful.

He lost to all of them and had a total of one victory which at best is completely negated by his cowardly quit job. Duran went 1-4 against Hagler, SRL and Hearns. Tommy at least went 1-1 with SRL (he won the rematch) an Poleaxed the greaseball.

I am in a conciliatory mood so I will allow Duran to be a small shitty satellite that orbits around Planet Fab 3, a greasy foul smelling small moon, but he is in the orbit of the truly great fighters of the era.

Rape is too strong a word, but I do think Duran would be too much for Pryor.

Duran is the one guy where Pryor's attacking style would backfire on him.

I think Duran stops Pryor late, circa round 13. But it'd be a war for the ages.

It would undoubtedly be a great fight. But yeah, I don't think Pryor matches up very well with Duran, although better than Chavez does. I also think Duran would get a late stoppage.

Back to the thread at hand, I do think Pryor would probably stop Timmy.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I thought Timmy looked pretty crap against the most beatable, tepid Pacquiao yet. If Pacquiao still had a bit more oomph and killer instinct, he would have stopped Timmy too.
