Russell Jr looks like a smaller, southpaw version of a young Mosley. we'll see if his chin is as good.

He looks nowhere near as good as prime Mosley, he's not as quick either.

Mosley has always been kind of limited, but people are forgetting what a beast he was at his peak. His handspeed was insane, with great accuracy, reach, would let his hands go a lot, good power, decent footwork and footspeed. Never been a great boxer or thinker in the ring, but had a huge amount of talent, and could take a punch too.

Before I had seen him fight, people were really hyping up his speed, saying he was the quickest fighter in boxing etc. He was nowhere near as quick as I expected. A clear notch down from a prime Shane, no doubt.

Gamboa is much quicker, his hands are blazing fast when he really throws, powerful too, not just shoeshines. Khan is also faster, albeit amateurish flurries.

Early in the fight, Khan has quicker hands. Rewatch something like Khan Vs Judah. When he lets those shoeshines fly, he has some legit handspeed.

Gary looks fast but not speed demon fast. Prime Pacquiao and Floyd were faster too, so was Jewdah.

I finally saw Lara and he is pretty good fighter. I think he would pick Canelo apart if they fought.

I had never seen Bunrage but god damn he is sloppy. He makes for fun fights though.

First time I saw Russell Jr. as well. I think he is pretty damn fast but like Broner he has to step up competition to really give him his props.

One disturbing thing I heard from the Showtime announcers is that when they asked Russell Jr. who he wants to fight as a step up fight he said JM Lopez! :l1: that fool is coming from back to back ko losses and is probably gonna be inactive for the rest of the year.

Well, Lopez would still be a significant step up, seeing as he hasn't fought anyone.

I don't think Lopez is a step up for anybody. Maybe for another guy on the downside. But somebody as talented as Russell and coming up it's a joke of a fight.

Lopez is a name but his carreer is in the gutter right now. Russell would stop him and should be expected to.

Not sure if he is Gamboa fast but he is pretty damn fast.

Lopez would be a major step up. I'd love to see that fight.

I would too but not right now. How much credit you think he'll get with Lopez coming off back to back KO losses. Most claiming his elite days are over. and probably a year of inactivity from the suspension for talking shint about that ref?

Based on what i've seen from Russell he should take him out rather easy.

I still rate Russel Jr as a prospect. Not a contender. Lopez would be solid.

it would be silly for russell jr to fight lopez before he has even fought a ten rounder. it would be silly for lopez to fight russell jr. and arum wouldnt make the match either with a haymon/golden boy fighter

Certain styles like Russell's will always look out of this world against crap competition. This is to his credit.

Exactly, it's ludicrous to think he'd be a lock over even someone like Lopez, he is a prospect at this stage, and has fought no one at all. He makes Broner's competition look great by comparison.

I've probably been the single biggest Lopez detractor since he came on the scene, but even I acknowledge it would be a major step up. I wouldn't even be shocked if Lopez won.

So many fighters look amazing blasting through scrubs, only to be completely exposed when faced with some adversity.

BTW does Gary have the shortest reach ever for a featherweight at only 61 inches?

Yep, and it leads to guys like him getting overrated.

Yep. Which could be a negative for Russell, if for example, it puts undue pressure on him, causes him to rush his career, or worse (for us especially) could delay indefinitely his taking on top competition, figuring, “what's the point? I'm already so highly regarded.“

Best scenario for all is for everyone to keep a proper perspective.
