Floyd Sr just claimed in an interview that he thinks Floyd would "beat the dog shit out of Chavez" and "knock his ass out." Keeping in mind Chavez would likely have over 30 lbs on Floyd in the ring, what transpires?
I would just have to pick Floyd. Epic size advantage or not, Chavez is just too scrubby. A gulf in talent overcomes a huge size advantage, Roy Vs Ruiz, Pacquiao vs Plasterito etc.
Agreed. If Junior had quicker snappier punches or a better jab it would be different. Mayweather could probably just pot shot him to a decision.
But this would be one of the biggest size advantages of all time.. in the ring, it's what, a 5 division difference? Nevertheless I think I have to agree, Floyd is just too good and Chavez is just too shitty. 8-4ish type decision for Floyd.
Huge gulf in glass here, I do think a 180 pound guy leaning on you and punching you in the arms and hips when you are about 150 pounds is more significant than you guys are considering it to be. I think Roy/Ruiz is a poor comparison because Ruiz was a guy who relied on plodding forward, throwing one shot and then clinching, he was not a pressure fighter, nor did he present any real volume Basically, he couldn't throw his one shot and then grab Jones because Jones wasn't there to be grabbed. Junior doesn't fight like that and Floyd doesn't pot-shot like Jones, he is a more in-the-pocket type of defensive fighter. I don't think Junior is very good either, but you are asking a much, much smaller man to not only keep him off but also to deal with the draining effects of a big guy leaning on him, pushing him... I guess it's possible that Chavez is so scrubby that Floyd can still win, but I think it is also a possibility that the size difference makes it almost impossible for him to win clearly.
For the record, a lighter Chavez of a couple of years ago, gets sliced and diced, but he's grown into a very big guy
Chumpez Jr would win. Just too big. If Floyd had fresher legs, I might pick him. But Floyd fights more in the pocket now because his legs have diminished.
It figures that Mr. "I love Boxing" would downgrade one of the only guys around that still knows how to fight You could argue that Mayweather's success at the higher weights is partly a function of the shittiness of the current scene (not that YOU'D do that) but he is still clearly the most skillful fighter in the game right now. He looks like what good fighters used to look like, he knows how to box, you know, like evading punches without leaping out of the way in horror... You can't even appreciate one of the last great boxers around yet you talk shit about others' commitment to the sport
dont let other topics cloud your judgement here, semendogg. your posts in this topic indicate you agree with my prediction in this matchup.
Plus, there's the matter of Chavez's significant height advantage. At some point, many in fact, as in the ODH fight, PBF will have to stop moving and when he does, Chavez's right hand will sail over PBF's normally protective shoulder. Chavez doesn't have the speed or the jab of even an old ODH. But he has much more power, more energy, and he's more physical. What PBF did against ODH (steal a close decision made possible by ODH's lethargic performance in the second half of the fight) he could not hope to do against the young and likely juiced Chavez.
Yeah because it's a 150 pound guy taking on a guy who comes in at 180 in the ring not because "Mayweather isn't shit at 154", Kneel.
