Morales was a complete fighter. He could box, brawl, inside, outside, whatever you wanted. This may border on blasphemy, but he might be considered a Duran for our generation.

He was nowhere that level of dominance, though

I thought he lost To Guty Espadas, for crying out loud.

Yes, never mind one of the 4 or 5 most dominant title reigns of all time from 1972-1979... let's ignore that, and focus solely on a relatively meaningless 10 rounder 20 pounds later, 16 years into the career... great observation... you are brilliant.

almost same thing apply to the Espada fight, to a lesser extent. Guess you're as brilliant as I am

Except 8 years into his career and at arguably his best weight.

Same thing, sure... if you discount that Morales was in his prime, a lot younger and had accomplished roughly half of what Duran had by that same point in time in his career

don't buy that Duran wasn't in his prime for Laing. Some of his best performance were after the Laing fights.

duran was a better boxer and had a better career than Morales, but using Espada as an example is a terrible argument

Yeah it's the same. As is Ali losing to Leon Spinks. And Roy Jones losing to Glenn Johnson. It's all exactly the same.

I don't know that I would put Laing-Duran in the same category as those fights. Ali and Jones had almost nothing left at that point...Duran had definitely passed his peak, but he still had a lot of fight left in him in that point of his career.

but he was certainly a lot further from his prime than Morales was against Espadas. Morales was IN HIS prime

No argument from me in that. Just thought hut was going a bit too far with Duran's decline at that time.

Was Duran in his prime when he committed the most cowardly act in boxing history by quitting against SRL?

well, as usual, when it comes to Duran, you're no better than a teenage girl in front of the flavour of the month pop star, so your opinion barely matters

I think that morales as proved enough in his career to not be defined by a controversial decision, in wich he was probably overconfident and wich he avenged emphatically.

Saying that Morales is not as good as duran (wich is the case tough) cause of only that fight is ridiculous.

He was barely two years removed from his best performance ever, and looked as good as ever against Cuevas, Moore and Hagler afterward. If Duran was past his peak, it was not by much

Jesus of Montreal by kayo in this thread. Duran fans are like evangelical Christians. They may be nice, smart or decent, but their delusion clouds their judgment. Duran fans are teenyboppers and are deluded about every aspect of Duran's career. It literally is a fictional world much like Christianity.

Do you think Chavez was also in his prime against Oscar? How about against Tszyu?

Was Morales in his prime against Maidana?

Was Oscar in his prime against Sturm?
