A decent Strikeforce event that's flown under the radar. The main event should be interesting with Kennedy and Rockhold being evenly matched. Rockhold's range and striking probably win it for him, but Kennedy can't ever be discounted. But likely more interesting is the return of Nate 'The Cheat' Marquardt fighting under the Zuffa umbrella again. He gets a shot at the vacant Strikeforce Welterweight title (formerly Nick Diaz) against Tyrone Woodley. Woodley is one of the most highly regarded prospects on the Strikeforce roster. He gets the biggest test of his career in Marquardt who once challenged Anderson Silva for the UFC MW crown. Lost in the shuffle of the Marquardt-Woodley title fight is the fact that it marks a move down to 170 pounds for Marquardt. Initially he was scheduled to fight Rick Story at welterweight back in June of 2011. But he couldn't lay off the testosterone and got dropped by the UFC. Good card. Main card (Showtime) Middleweight Championship bout: Luke Rockhold (c) vs. Tim Kennedy Welterweight Championship bout: Nate Marquardt vs. Tyron Woodley Middleweight bout: Robbie Lawler vs. Lorenz Larkin Middleweight bout: Keith Jardine vs. Roger Gracie Preliminary card (Showtime Extreme) Lightweight bout: Pat Healy vs. Mizuto Hirota Lightweight bout: Jorge Masvidal vs. Justin Wilcox Lightweight bout: Ryan Couture vs. Joe Duarte Welterweight bout: Jordan Mein vs. Tyler Stinson Welterweight bout: Jason High vs. Nate Moore
Im really exited about this event. One think that I love about SF is that they stack their cards, and they are free.
I fucking loved the Marquartd KO. That was awesome. I never liked Woodley. The guy just lays on people. Luke looked pretty good against Kennedy. He's really strong for 185. Luke is a big dude.
woodley was askren's teammate in college. go figure. very good wrestler but his striking is subpar. reminds me of a less athletic, less explosive version of rashad evans.
