Escobedo Quit: Why Hasn't He Gotten Shit?

i didnt really pay attention to that but it just sounds like he went through the proper protocol to end a fight and catch little to no heat image wise. ortiz has a moron in his corner who made him look like a pussy when he was getting hit and damaged a whole lot more than escobedo.

 

This is a severe distortion of the truth. The contract was modified and filed the morning of the weigh-in, only so Floyd could avoid paying a fine to NSAC. The original deal was 144, but Floyd and Marquez worked out a deal prior to the weigh-in. Marquez received a 20% spike in his purse, which was smart on his part. Had he not agreed, he would've split that 20% with NSAC.

That's why Kizer made such a big stink about Floyd's lack of professionalism, that he waited until the day of the weigh-in to submit modified contracts. The originally filed contracts was 144 lb. hard limit.

I didn't fault Ortiz for going out the way he did, more so than I was happy with the outcome of the fight. But for those who took issue with his bowing out, as mentioned there is a history of his finding ways out of a fight and this is the second time he conceded defeat in a fight he was both favored to win and was actually winning at the time of the stoppage.

For those who - as you said - favor 'proper protocol', therein lies the difference, not to mention the gap in expectations between Ortiz and Escobedo. Though one thing I agree w/ Muzse is that Ortiz absorbed far more punishment in those fights than Chente did here.

That was a good shot...you see Kosta catching Hatton leaping in which forces the punch to the lower portion of the beltline. This is contrary to Kosta who was in a natural defensive stance.

 

Interesting, I didn't know the details, but I was originally under the impression it was simply a catchweight of 144, and that was the hard limit. I didn't know about the modified contracts though.

 

all fighters should modify the contracts in such instances. why the f*ck does the commission deserve ANY money ? should all go to the opponent

 

I was not aware of this. If true, that is douchey on Floyd's part, especially since he could have made the weight easily if he'd wanted to.

 

I agree, to a point. Some fighters would rather their opponent go sweat out whatever remaining weight for another 1-2 hours, thus further draining them.

In the cases like Marquez and Escobedo, both were considerable underdogs anyway so were better off negotiating as much as possible.

I do agree 100% though that paying the fine to the commission is a crock of shit and have to hear a legit reason for what an athletic commission is entitled to that money.
