Haye probably wins. He has good movement and that quick right hand would keep Tua wary. Of course one punch could end it but I'd pick Haye about 9-3
a) Post-Ibeabuchi Tua can't be considered prime b) Tua was not 100% for that fight by any means c) Jeff Wooden was not a bad fighter d) You aren't aware of any of the above because you likely haven't seen a single Tua fight, let alone this specific one. I would be surprised if you could name a single Jeff Wooden fight other than the one with Tua without googling
So the monster knows as pre-Ike Tua who nearly lost to both David Izon and Oleg Maskaev and whose claim to fame are the quick KOs against Ruiz and Darroll Wilson is completely different guy from the one that fought Hasim Rahman. Ok, angerman I do admit I only remember two other fights from Wooden, his questionable loss to Michael Grant and getting whupped by Oleg Maskaev. Maybe apart from these two bouts he was an exceptional fighter and by far the better boxer than Haye, who knows Or maybe it is that you are one of those boxing fans who like to watch KO reel highlights and assume that a guy who has plenty of one-punch KOs has to be better than anyone else, despite of what he actually did in the ring.
I'm not saying Tua was shot, just that he slipped post-Ibeabuchi. He "nearly lost" to Jeff Wooden, he didn't "nearly lose" to Izon and Maskaev. He was ahead on points vs both and then KO'd them. Yeah, I only like limited sluggers. Well established from my posts on fightbeat and the fact that I used to get accused of being a "flomo" all the time here.
Even if Haye survives (he wouldn't) all the rounds would be close and Tua would be the aggressor. Let's not pretend Haye would spend any time punching in this fight.
Tua sucks. Haye would hit him enough for Tua to back off and plod around doing not much. Haye would flounce around, clinch, land the odd big punch....I reckon it'd be enough. Remember, Tua sucks.
Haye doesn't have a fraction of Lewis' firepower. He's not keeping Tua off all night. The 96 Tua circa the Ruiz and Izon fights would knock Haye cold at some point. Haye might beat the fat ass Tua of the 00s.
Lewis took the first. Then from rounds 2-4 one judge gave Tua one, second judge two and third judge all three. Then Lewis took command and won all the rest in all cards. So you are correct that Tua didn't quit immediately. However, his style would suit Haye much better than Vladimir's
Not exactly a 1:1 correlation. How many rounds do you think Haye takes vs Lewis? Better question, how many rounds do you think Haye lasts vs Lewis?
Tua by KO. Haye simply is not physically strong enough/doesn't use his jab enough/doesn't punch enough. I don't even think Haye lasts past 5 rounds. (Unless he comes in to strictly survive and run. Then he might last around 8)
But Byrd didn't have a fraction of Haye's power either. It didn't take serious power to keep Tua "off you".
But this is David Tua with an exclamation point. So this is a prime, non-fat version of Tua vs. Haye.
Better defensively for sure, but not nearly as quick in both hand and foot speed, and without really any power to speak of. Of course Byrd and Haye don't fight anything alike stylewise, but if power is so important against Tua then Cory Stinks should be able to beat him.
I don't disagree, just pointing out that Byrd's particular abilities were ideally suited to a short plodder like Tua... And, not to act like Tua was some world-beater or anything at his best, his best was a few years before he fought Byrd
