I said the same thing a couple of pages back. America has had it's day with boxing imo, at least for now. Fuck knows what's going on, but none of the young guys have it. We won't be seeing another Floyd anytime soon.
Does anyone think that the drop in popularity for boxing in the USA and the drop in young kids (ahem, african american kids mostly) taking up the sport of boxing is simply due to the lack of a superstar to inspire them? i firmly believe that American Football and the increase in collegiate sports scholarships and avenues along with wrestling and mma have helped contribute to the decline in many 175+ pound kids taking up boxing in the first place.... but what about the people below 175? i heard stories for 2 or more generations of fighters who grew up idolizing Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, or that they were inspired by the skills of Holmes/Tyson or the USA 1984 Olympic class.... since there hasn't been anyone to fill those shoes (mayweather HAHAHAHAHAHAHA) maybe that is also partly to blame?
+shitty amateur program...fighters train to throw fast slapping punches.. +competition from every other sport baseball, basketball, football. From the 1910-1970 it was boxing and baseball were the two major sports in the country....1980-till today for the NBA had an explosion in popularity..and for the last 20 years it has been the NFL... +No NCAA BOXING....if high schools pick up boxing as they do football and basketball...in 10-20 years boxing in the USA would have a rejuvenation. Imagine good to college on a boxing scholarship....:egypt: MMA might be sitting in a goldmind with NCAA wrestlers... +Shit exposure in boxing....a bet there is a motherfucker in Brazil or Ukraine that would rock Broner's world...but he will never get the chance to be on HBO or showtime...or even ESPN. There is talent out there but they are not going to land in promoters lapse...they are going to go scout them and bring 'em to the states...
That's a chicken-and-egg argument. If there was lack of superstar, then what caused the lack of superstar. Maybe there were superstars. Just not American ones. What superstar inspired the Klitschkos? They said Schmeling. Tyson used to watch movies of Marciano and Dempsey and Louis. They were his idols. :dunno:
Have a look at this. There is a recurring symbol or logo on the screen which should answer a lot, if not all, questions.
America's decline?
Jessup: You want answers?!

Kaffee: I want the truth!

Jessup: You can't handle the truth!
The US needs to do the German thing and import talent both in fighters and trainers.
Felix Verdejo Sanchez 1 of 3(i think) puerto rican boxer remaining has to fight that Ukrainian faggot...tomorrow...:bangh::bangh: The Ukranian fights a bit like Gamboa...but keeps his hands up... Might lose in the amateur but as usual we will get our revenge in the pros...:crafty:
Nah, the Olympic Committee is FINALLY Cracking Down on Corruption...Apparently, 1 Ref has Been EXPELLED, Another has Been SUSPENDED & a Technical Officiall has Been EXPELLED as Well, All from the 2012 Olympics.... REED:mj:
Al Jazeera's logo was in that video. You think ESPN would take time out to do a documentary of a non-American fighter esp. from Eastern Europe? Yet for years European kids have tuned into documentaries made by their own TV companies about American fighters. Nobody in America will really know about Lomachencko until he's won a World Title, and by then they'll have their excuses ready.
I didn't think he won the fight by anything like "Investigation Required" standards, he's a pretty dumb fighter, spent large parts of the fight testing the quality of his opponents gloves with powerful shots.
It Wasn't Roy Jones in '88, but the Decision was Pretty ABSURD, Nonetheless, as Spence ARGUABLY Won EVERYfuckingROUND... EVERY Scoring Punch Vikas Landed was of the Quality that U're CRITICIZING Spence for...If Spence Spent "Large Parts of the Fight Testing the Quality of his Opponents Gloves with Powerful Shots" (Which is Utter BULLSHIT), then that's ALL Vikas Did for the ENTIRETY of the SAME Bout... To Call Spence a 'Dumb' Fighter is Tired, Requisite, LAME Ass TROLLING on your Behalf....If U'd Actually WATCH the Fucking Fight, U'd See that Spence FAILED to Resemble ANYTHING You've just Described...NEVERMIND the Countless BODYSHOTS Spence Landed (Particularly in the 1st 2 Rounds), Huh???... REED:hammert:
It's dumb to wail on your opponents gloves when the body presents itself, and then, having had success to the body....go straight back to the gloves. :scratcher: I had him losing the first round, winning the 2nd half of the 2nd, and winning the 3rd, and thought 2 points was unfair, but not out of keeping with some of the other stupid decisions I have seen so far.
Vikas Went to the Body Faaaaaaaaaaaar LESS than Spence, Dude....If Spence Fought "Dumb", or whatever U Said, Vikas Performed w/CONSIDERABLY LESS Boxing Intellect... Yet it Took an APPEAL to Get it Rightfully Overturned & U're BITCHING about It???... REEDopcorn:
It was about time that someone showed some balls and that these kind of things happened. I was more than sick with hearing that no harm was done and that the decision was justifiable in face of a obvious corruption/incompetence. Now, if only the commissionners ( harder because of their fragmented nature ) in pro boxing would take examples, maybe we wouldn't have senile Cortez or an inconstant guy like Nady (to be honest, I don't think he referess anymore) to spoil every big fight ( and that not to talk of the judges ).
BTW, does someone know why in some categories there's only 16 fighters and others, as much as 64 ??? THis seems pretty, for lack of better term, amateur
What the fuck are with all these southpaws? 75% of fighters seem to be left handed. Urrrrggghhhhhh amateur boxing :shit:
I really do like Lomachenko, he's a little fighting machine. Fast, powerful, patient, aggressive - great punch repertoire, straights, hooks, uppercuts, body shots. He even has good head movement. The only flaws he could possibly have are chin and stamina.
Im curious to see how he does as a pro. I think very well. He does fight in a style that should work well in the pros.
Exactly, that's why I was so surprised he didn't turn pro 4 years ago. His fights basically look like a pro Vs an amateur, and his style is very pro. Compact, aggressive, powerful. Good head movement, combos, bodyshots etc, and even some - gasp - infighting.
He's the biggest superstar in amateur boxing, I'm guessing he is well-compensated by his national ABA, and am sure he does well with endorsements and the like in that part of world, I doubt he's been living hand to mouth for the past few years
Choof. I didn't realise how young he was actually, I thought he was like mid twenties in Beijing, not 20.
