Looks like Dana White said that the fighter that looks the best in the Bader-Machida or Rua-Vera bouts this weekend will get the next shot at Jon Jones (provided he beats Henderson). So in 3 out of the 4 options we get a rematch for Jones against guys he absolutely destroyed the first time out. Or we get a most uninteresting Brandon Vera match-up. WTF? What happened to Gustafson? Hell, even moving Mousasi over would be more interesting to me. I think Mousasi has been overrated over his career. but the dude has never really been beaten up and it would be cool to see how Jones handles him. Rua-Jones II is just a crappy thought.
Vera would be a rematch too. Don't you remember Jones collapsing Vera's face the first time they fought? TFK
Ya Jones already destroyed all 4. Dana would be very stupid to give any of them a rematch. If Rua beat someone decent then maybe maybe you could a case for him in a rematch. Same goes for Machida. But beating Vera and Bader ? Fuck that. THey should fight each other like I heard they are planning to anyway on the next Brazilian TUF. They need to give that Gustafsson kid a fight on the undercard of Jones vs Hendo against someone decent like Rampage and then give the kid a shot in early 2013. By then they should bring in some decent light heavyweights from somewhere because the division will be very very boring soon.
Unfortunately, right now at 205 there's a gap between fighters who 'were' at the top of the division, like Evans, Shogun, Machida, etc, and fighters who are up and coming, but not quite ready for a title shot yet, like Gustafsson and Teixiera. I say screw rematches with anyone he's already dominated, and let him fight Gustafsson. TFK
Then again, there was a certain level of brutality to Bones finishing Rua, Machida and Bader as well. But you're right, Brandon's face was literally broken in 3 places and looked crushed. I doubt Vera would be able to muster the courage to get back in the cage with Jones.
Neither of them want to fight the other and you can't make a guy move up or down in weight. Silva wants to stay at 185
Dana owns them and pretty much can make them do what he wants. GSP going up is probably going to happen first, though. Jones will be a cash-out fight for Anderson. A fight he'll probably lose. Just dreaming, but Jones vs Anderson would sell even if outside the UFC. I assume that the UFC locks these guys down, but let's say they both sit out the last year of their contract and then fight as a regular, non-UFC ppv...they would be looking at making at least $15 million each and I'd guess quite a bit higher.
They can make you fight whoever they want you to within your division, but they cannot make a guy change weight classes. I'm all for a Jones vs Silva fight. Silva vs GSP just doesn't interest me much.
Since Bones Took Shogun's Belt, there's a SLIVER of Intrigue in a RE...Ditto for Bones-Machida, Since Lyoto Actually WON a Round vs. Bones...But Aside from that, Even REED has ZERO Interest in Any Other Lightheavy RE's... REED Would Rather See Bones Begin to TEST the Heavyweight Waters in NON-Title Fights, as the 205'ers Reposition & Regroup.... REED:dancingBaby:
If Jones fights in a re-match I would like to see him against Machida. That was a pretty interesting first round until K-Boom.. but lets not loose the run of ourselves.. Jones must get over Hendo before he fights any of these guys.
Although I would love to look forward to the Hendo/Bones fight, I simply can't. Bones is gonna run over him. He has every single advantage in this fight besides experience and chin.
No one ever really beats Hendo into submission - either way this is an interesting test for Jones and how he reacts when desperate Dan is still a live fish 3 rounds into the fight. I dont think you can ever under estimate Dan Henderson - I will not be shocked if Hendo beats Jones...... slightly surprised but he's gotta a chance
I would have agreed with this a few years ago. But at 42 and being knocked down frequently lately, Hendo is pretty ripe for the taking. He will be in there with a hungry lion in his prime this fight, unlike his last few fights.
Maybe his last few victories are clouding my judgement or maybe Hendo will go out with one helleva a bang.. Lets reconvene in a few weeks ..
Not far off? The idiot used the term "OWNS".. I am relatively certain that either Jones or Silva could decide NOT to do anything Dana says. There's a Grand Canyon sized gap between owning someone and employing someone. I think, right??? Damn.
No, don't let Shoebraski change your opinion. Henderson is and always has been a difficult out for anyone. With Henderson, even if you beat him like Shields, Silva or Wandy, there are going to be moments that you have to overcome. Shoebraski talks about Henderson getting knocked down recently. Well, Dan's an undersized Lightheavy and took some huge shots from Fedor. He didn't go anywhere. We saw the same thing against Rua. Dan taking multiple big shots that would have finished a ton of good fighters, but he didn't go anywhere. The other thing about the Rua fight was seeing the determination of the aging Henderson. He was completely gassed and mounted 3 times in the final round but never quit. So that's the real interest in the Jones fight. How will Jones beat Henderson. How will he attack a crafty and danger puncher like Henderson. Will he play it safe like he did against Rashad or will he destroy Henderson unlike anyone else has? Will Henderson be able to get home even a single big shot. And if so, how will Jones take it? It's easy to see the huge favorite coasting to an easy win, but this is still an interesting fight. Henderson hasn't lost at 205 since the Rampage fight. He deserves the shot, and he always makes his fights interesting.
Great KO from Swick although he should have stopped punching when he sees the guy is out cold. It looked just like the Machida Thiago Silva KO.
