I know what you guys are going to say, but spare me of your prejudice: Grease is an all time classic. One of the best musicals ever made and probably the most beloved one of all time. The film was released on June 1978 and went on to be the most successful film of that year, making even more money than Superman: The Movie (adjusted for inflation Grease made like $617 million domestically). I rewatched it today with my children who requested it (they love it) and it is still fun and maintains that timeless quality that any classic film must have. John Travolta has publicly admitted that this, his second film, is the crowning achievement of his career and he is right. All the songs are catchy, the dance numbers entertaining and all the actors are perfect in their roles. I used to have a crush on Olivia Newton-John at that time. Maybe because her character Sandy represented my ideal woman for a wife, even though she was extremely skinny. Too bad her movie career never took off like it was supposed to.

Can't judge the film as I never had any interest in seeing it. Even as a kid when all my friends were constantly talking about it and I felt kind of left out in that respect, I had ample opportunity to see it and continued to pass on it. And this was like before I even knew that it was a musical and before I knew how much musicals suck. So let's just say my movie instincts were well in place even as a kid.

Grease is in the pantheon of movie classics. It is the best 'high school musical' ever (kids today think that Disney tv movie is better...puke!).

I like Xanadu as a guilty pleasure film because (A) I was infatuated with Olivia Newton-John (B) I like all the songs. The movie itself is lame and mediocre at best, but hey, everybody likes a turkey at least once in a while...like in Thanksgiving!

Grease is a great movie and is more watchable than say, The Wizard of Oz or The Sound of Music.

    +1 Frankie Valli!

Anyway, yeah, you can't knock 'Grease' really - one of the great movies of the 1970s.

I remember I had to go and watch this as payback because my 2 cousins had to accompany me and my brother to watch 'Star Wars' a year before.

I remember thinking it was nowhere near as bad as I thought - of course by that time, we were swamped with 'Summer Nights', 'You're The One That I Want', 'Greased Lightning, 'Sandy', 'Hopelessly Devoted' - you have to admit they were all great pop songs.

I can still watch it throughiut today.

That may be the most grizzled bunch of high schoolers I've ever seen. They must have worked in the coal mines since birth to have aged so absolutely horribly.

GTFOH, of course you can knock it. It's banal trash. Musicals are uniformly horrendous and Grease is no exception.

Those songs are derivitave, generic pablum.

It is one of the most offensive, artless, witless piles of dogshit I have ever had the misfortune of sitting all the way through.

Jeff Conaway looks like my Grandpa.........when he was already a Grandpa. Stockard Channing is sporting an ancient C-Section scar and the skin of Carol Channing.

    :nono:

BTW, comparing to 90201 doesn't exactly work in Grease's favor.

It's like comparing a piece of shit, to a greasier piece of shit.
