If Barkley can avoid getting stopped early on, he's got a hell of a shot to get back in it gradually and wear Julian down late That's a big "if' Barkley was not a difficult guy to hit, obviously and he was a pretty slow starter. I can see him getting staggered enough that a compassionate ref may decide "alright, that'll be enough of that"... But Barkley was at his best in a brawl... He was getting killed by Thomas Hearns, the body shots in the third round were doubling him over and that fight probably wasn't going to go much longer, he was either going to finally collapse to the canvas or Steele was going to wave it off... still, with one wild, million-to-one shot, he caught an overconfident Hearns napping and put him away... Now, a lot of people would call that luck, and I don't necessarily disagree, but he did DO it nonetheless. He got a bit of a raw deal against Nigel Benn... some seriously dirty bullshit in that fight that really went uncalled... maybe he comes back there with a different ref? Jackson was a vulnerable middleweight, he still had that ridiculous one-punch power but he was also a little chinny, small for the division and did not have the greatest stamina either... If Barkley can survive what is sure to be a rough early going, I think he eventually turns the tide, bloodied and swollen, and knocks JJ out. I wouldn't bet any money on it, though
JJ's best win at Middleweight, by a mile, was a desperation one shot KO in a fight where he was getting destroyed himself Other than that, what do we have, Thomas Tate? I think you are overrating him, a lot
If Benn could punch between Iran's wild swings, and knock the shit outta him, I see no reason why Jackson couldn't as well. Jackson was just a better fighter than Barkley. Barkley had Hearns' number, but that doesn't mean he'd have success against Jackson.
Benn was doing all of the wild swinging in that fight... he landed about 10 Rabbit punches... every shot was a wide swing... the first knockdown was a rabbit punch, he also hit Barkley while he was down. Totally filthy fight. Benn didn't punch between jack shit in that fight
Benn was beating the shit outta Barkley. Illegally, but also legally. If not for the stupid ass 3 KD rule, I think Benn would have still stopped him.
Benn was hitting him with lots of hard, illegal shots... he was illegally beating the shit out of him
