Well the best guys he's fought are Margarito which he got stopped, I don't fault him for that though. From then until Cintron he fought nobody of note. Took 2 tries to KO williams, and didn't stop Pavlik or Cintron (officially).

I think this fight is closer than some think. Chavez's size will play a huge part. Chavez is not as fast as Martinez but he is not Margarito slow either.

I see a fight with Martinez throwing fast shots and trying to move out of the way and connecting clean more than others have on Chavez before.

But at some point he will slow down and have to fight Chavz toe to toe.

I think at the end it will be a close decision obviously going to Chavez. Even if Martinez wins a clean decision he wont' get it. But I don't see a Martinez domination at all.

 

Steward is suspicious Chavez is on roids, claiming his strength was super-human and something about post-fight drug testing being shady.

I know I'm late to the party here but thius thread needs resurrecting, the fight isn't far away and I'm stoked. I believe I'm going with Chavez Jr in a close fight, but I never count out Sergio. What a fight is all I can say.

 

This is going to be a much closer fight then I originally thought. The biggest problem for Martinez is going to be Jr's size. I still have Martinez on points here but you just never know. :kidcool: I wont be surprised if youth takes the victory here.

 

I agree and I think youth, Jr's size and chin are three assets that are going to be a problem for Sergio. I can't see Sergio winning unless its by a decision, but in all fairness he's fighting a guy that could be a weight class above him. Sergio is still amazing even if he loses.

 

I'm really looking forward to this fight. Can't wait.

I hope he wins... if nothing else than for the hilarity of all the guys constantly discussing how incredible that monkey Martinez is having to backtrack or make excuses left and right

I think it's a pick-em... Junior hasn't fought anybody but is bigger, younger and stronger... Martinez is more seasoned, more experienced but is smaller and older (though I don't buy for a second all of the just-in-case excuse making his supporters are throwing up about "past his prime" ...)

I look forward to it, especially after a whole month without any big fights

Chavez Jr is the goods man. I wasn't sold on him unil his last few fights. He's getting better in every fight.

 

Sure he has got better, more than I thought possible, but he's still going to get the crap beaten out of him by Suave Serge.

That's what makes this fight interesting. We'll see.

 

Martinez's nose has had its share of adjustments. He's there to hit, but in order to do that, Chavez has to be able to handle the incoming. It should be fun to watch. Hard to believe it's been 11 years since Hopkins-Trinidad, but this fight happens on the 11 year anniversary of the original slated fight night. It was supposed to be September 15th but got changed to the 29th as a result of 9-11.

 

i hope Chavez totally dominates him and then goes on to win like 90 fights with no losses!
