Top 10 Vampire Movies <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> 10. Taste the Blood Of Dracula Christopher Lee at his best. The resuscitation scene was really extremely creepy at its time. Now it looks tame, but I still remember the chills it gave me. Madeline Smith outshines all the other actresses from all the Dracula movies with her radiant beauty. <o></o> 9. The Hunger – Catherine Deneuve as a modern vampire who selectively picks her victims at the chic discos in the pre-AIDS era. The scene where she seduces Susan Sarandon was deemed too strong and in many places it was slapped with an “X” rating. David Bowie was perfectly cast as the vampire lover who willingly lets her slowly drain his life. This 1983 Tony Scott film is an underrated gem that unfortunately paved the way for the ‘modern vampire’ flicks that for the most part have been lame. <o></o> 8. Dracula (1931) Spanish version When Universal Studios was shooting the Bela Lugosi “Dracula” film during the day, at night, using the same sets and costumes another crew filmed simultaneously a Spanish version with a different cast. Watching both together you can’t help but come to the conclusion that the Spanish version was superior in its filming style, acting and overall production. Lugosi might have become the iconic Dracula, but his film was not the better one. <o></o> 7. Let The Right One In – Forget the American version, this is the film you need to watch. Engaging, creepy, disturbing. Next time you see a little girl barefoot standing in the snow, run for your life!!! <o></o> 6. Bram Stoker’s Dracula – Francis Ford Coppola operatic film was as close to Bram Stoker’s novel as Transformers Dark Side of The Moon was to the actual moon landing, but he gave us a twisted romantic tale where you root for the ‘bad guy’. Gary Oldman and Wynona Ryder did a fantastic job. You can’t take your eyes off from Anthony Hopkins lunatic over-the-top scenery chewing performance and Keanu Reeves was totally miscast as the most forgettable Jonathan Harker. Whoa! <o></o> 5. Twins Of Evil – Underrated Hammer film which was an indirect last chapter in the Mircalla Karnstein trilogy. Mircalla returns briefly from the underworld and turns a young aristocrat Satanist into a vampire. He then eyes the two beautiful new twins in town and seduces one turning her into his mate. This has to be one of the most sexy vampire films ever with female full frontal nudity in display for the delight of male audiences. Real life twins the Collinsons sisters star and Peter Cushing is at hand to drive a few stakes in vampires hearts. <o></o> 4. Nosferatu – the original 1925 silent version was the first vampire film and remains as one of the best of all time. Max Shreck will forever be remembered as the creepiest looking vampire in cinema. <o></o> 3. Interview with the Vampire – Director Neil Jordan proved critics wrong when his star choice, Tom Cruise, delivered a very mesmerizing vampire Lestat in this faithful adaptation of Ann Rice’s first Vampire Chronicles book. Brad Pitt as the melancholic Louie was another good choice, but the true scene stealer was then 10 year old Kirsten Dunst in her memorable tour de force performance as Claudia, one the youngest vampires to grace the screen. Antonio Banderas was good here too, but had little screen time. Contrary to other vampire films before, this story is told through the eyes of a character that started as a human, becomes a vampire and his 200 years struggle to retain the little humanity he has left. Amazing film! <o></o> 2. El Vampiro – Often regarded as one of the most influential vampire films in cinema history. This Mexican production took the Lugosi vampire concept and pushed it to its limits (the ones allowed at that time in Mexico). The result is a gothic masterpiece with iconic images of pure vampire lore. German Robles is magnificent as the first blonde male vampire count Duval. Abel Salazar (who also wrote and directed the film) is a passing-by doctor who unwillingly has to battle the vampiric forces that plague the Mexican hacienda where he is temporarily staying. Contrary to other vampire hunters, Salazar’s character looks truly scared when facing these demons and at the end it is not him, but the character you least expect the one who defeats the monster. Awesome! Christopher Lee has been quoted as admitting that his Horror of Dracula would not have been possible without the inspiration this film provided. <o></o> 1. The Vampire Lovers- The first of the Hammer Films Karnstein trilogy is not only a wonderful adaptation of Irish author Sheridan Le Fanu 1872 novella “Carmilla”, the first vampire book predating Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but the best of all the versions done before and after and in my opinion, THE best vampire film ever. Ingrid Pitt stars as Carmilla Karnstein, an ancient vampire formerly known as Mircalla Karnstein, who now cleverly disguises in plain sight as the live-in tutor of the young beautiful daughters of aristocrats in the Victorian era. Carmilla slowly drains the blood of her young victims and when death is near she just disappears only to reappear in another region and do exactly the same. The film is not shy from portraying the first lesbian vampire scenes and there is as much nudity as there is gothic atmosphere. Ingrid Pitt is the GOAT female vampire, no other actress comes close. She is incredibly hot and can act. Madeline Smith is perfect as the object of the vampiress desire: innocent, naive and extremely sexy. The story is fascinating and who else but Peter Cushing could do the honors of beheading Carmilla? There have been many adaptations of this story from The Vampyr (1932) to Blood & Roses (1960) which by the way is another excellent film, to made for tv movies. The Vampire Lovers is what a vampire film should be and more. Great film.

Honorable mentions: House of Dark Shadows Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter The Fearless Vampire Killers or Pardon me, but Your Teeth Are in My Neck
Satanic Rites of Dracula is crap. It is so bad that Christopher Lee sweared he will never play Dracula ever again and he kept his word!:goingmad:
I can't even remember what that one was about! :: Sharon Tate - what a terrible waste of a fine actress. issed:
Satanic Rites of Dracula was so bad that it looks like it was made with no budget, the editing is awful, the direction even worst and the story is so stupid you cannot believe how they convinced Lee & Cushing to do that one: it is a mixture of horror, science fiction & spy thriller that doesn't work. Lee was quoted as saying: "I'm doing it under protest... [...] I think it is fatuous. I can think of twenty adjectives – fatuous, pointless, absurd. It's not a comedy, but it's got a comic title. I don't see the point." I agreed with your statement about Sharon Tate. She was such a fine example of female specimen.
This. Absolutely love the original 1985 fright night. The remake with Colin Farrell is good, but not a touch on the '85 classic and Chris Sarandon shits all over Farrell as Jerry Dandridge. Also, has no-one mentioned The Lost Boys yet???
Interview With The Vampire shits all over all these movies and its not even getting a mention, whaat :dunno:
Did you watched the sequel, Scream, Blacula,Scream? It was better than the first one...two words: Pam Grier!
