In one of the poorest weekends at the box office ever for August, Expendables 2 easily won the box office race while none of the new releases could crack in the top five. With a tepid $13.5 million in its second weekend, the esemble action flick is still trailing behind the numbers of its predecesor like for $10 million. The Bourne Legacy preserved its #2 spot with $9.3 million while ParaNorman did the same feat maintaining its third spot with $8.5 milion. Will Ferrell's The Campaign also secured its number fourth spot from last week with $7.4 million. Improving from last week and moving one notch up The Dark Knight Rises took the fifth spot with $7.1 million while last week's number five movie, Sparkle, crashed to the eleventh spot with a 63.9% drop proving that even Whitney Houston's death was not enough to sell this movie to uninterested audiences. The last chapter in the Chris Nolan Batman trilogy has surpassed the $400 million mark and will most likely crack the #10 spot in the All Time Domestic grosses by tomorrow elbowing out The Lion King from that top ten list. It will probably finish its run landing in the sixth spot of the All Time domestic grosses. The Odd Life of Timothy Green had a virtual tie with The Dark Knight with also $7.1 million. Tomorrow we will have the exact numbers. Debuting (and bombing) in the number seventh spot Premium Rush failed even below the pesimistic forecasts of opening with at least 8-10 million. The thriller only grabbed $6.3 million. On the other hand the expanded conservative documentary 2016 Obama's America improved a 401% by grossing more than it was expected for a political documentary obtaining $6.2 million. The forecasts were of 2-4 million so this number is pretty good news for its makers and the conservatives who funded this film. Hope Springs took the ninth spot with $6 million for a total of $45 million. Not bad for a little film about an elderly couple. Hit & Run bombs in its debut with $4.6 million, but that was nothing compared to the horror flick The Apparation: its $2.9 million wasn't enough to even crack the top ten. Wait for the DVD release in two months from now.
