Dumb fight...Trout is shitty, but he is bigger than Cotto, has longer reach, can box from the outside..and is a fucking southpaw...

Ģood fight. Trout doesn't deserves it after his latest borefest but it's good to see Cotto is still keen on fighting the best

Cotto was probably being forced to a catchweight by Pacquiao and Cotto then opted to not sacrifice himself again that way. I have never seen Trout fight so I have no opinion about him.

Cotto should be able to beat Trout.

Think Cotto should win. Trout is good but not great.

Trout will win and it won't change the landscape.

I don't think so. I think Trout will remain a non-player with maybe a slight boost and Cotto will still get another big fight.

Like what happens when Morales loses to Raheem, or Mosley vs Mora, or de la hoya vs sturm, or darchinyan losing to agbeko etc

I think by now we've learned that in order to beat Cotto you need to put REAL hurt and pressure on him (Pac, Marg). Either that, or need to be a brilliant technician like Floyd.

Trout doesn't have Floyd's talent and skill set (nor Floyd's toughness for that matter) and he DAMN SURE ain't gonna put hurt on Cotto like Pac, and Marg did.

Therefore, I don't see how he wins.

The guy didn't impress me much against Rodriguez.

I don't think Trout would beat Canelo, let alone Cotto. Though he'd have a good chance against the Ginger.

Trout to me is like a more powerful, yet less skilled version of prime Cory Spinks.

Quintessential HIGH Risk, LOW Reward Fight...

Austin Trout is a BIG Ass Jr Middle, Whereas Cotto is a SMALL 1...Trout's BIGGER, STRONGER, YOUNGER, etc...He Typically Walks Into the Ring @ Damn Near 170....

REED Isn't Sure What the Thought Process Was Here...If Cotto Beats Trout, the Thought is "So What?"...But if he Loses, which is HIGHLY Possible, it Fucks Up the Image that Cotto has Only Recently Repaired...REED WANTS Cotto to Win, but Isn't sure that he Will...This is a 50-50 Fight, Fellas...

    Agreed, very weird fight.

I don't think much of Trout, but he is a LOT bigger, and presents stylistic problems.

I'm pretty much always cool with seeing how good a new fighter is. I support fights like these, even if it might be shit.

Its an INTRIGUING Fight for Sure, but if You're a SHOT CALLER on Team Cotto, You have to KNOW there were EASIER Fights Out There, for the Same Price...And/Or BIGGER Paydays w/a Similar Level of RISK...

Cotto-Trout is NOT PPV Worthy, so Cotto WON'T Get the Dollars he Otherwise Could from a RE w/Pac or Mayweather OR a Fight w/Canelo...As Mentioned by Many in this Thread, Trout is a LARGER, STRONGER, YOUNGER Man & his Style ISN'T Suited to Making Cotto Look "Impressive", Per Se...Though Still an ELITE Level Fighter, Cotto's on the BACK END of his Career...@ this Juncture, Cotto Should Take FAVORABLE Matchups, Unless the MONEY Warrants the Risk...

REED would Be VERY Intereted to Know Just How Much Cotto is Guaranteed for this Fight...

Trout kinda fights like Pernel Whitaker......if Whiatker had been hypnotised to believe his opponents gloves had been dipped in sulfuric acid & dart frog poison. And if his whole defense consisted of standing a foot too far back to ever counter effectively. Another off the modern boxing conveyor belt of 'shite bag' fighters. Cotto chases him around and wins a frustrating one.

I don't get it either. Bundrage seems like an easier ( albeit maybe more dangerous with his big looping punch ) foe who will make for a far more fan frieldly fight and would net Cotto the about the same $$, respect and also got another title. Or maybe Trout is simply not as good as I think he is and Cotto sees it

Maybe Cotto is just preparing himself to fight Martinez after he takes care of Chavez Jr.....?? Big, Tall, somewhat fast southpaw makes...sense. I would have gone with Spinks or some other pussy southpaw....but...

Well don't you think fighting Trout rather than Spinks (or some other pussy southpaw) would better prepare Cotto for fighting a tough great fighter like Martinez? I really don't think cutting corners is the way to go when preparing to face a guy like Martinez. So if your theory is accurate I'd say it not only explains Cottos decision but empowers it as well.

Martinez is NOT a GREAT FIGHTER....and of course my theory is right. But I'm all about paying the BILLS...so Corley will bring as much money as Trout..and is 10x easier fight...

I didn't think the fight made any sense at this stage of Cotto's career. Like mentioned it's high risk low reward. I think Cotto wants a belt around his waist to set up a possible payday with Canelo Alvarez or possible rematches with PBF or Manny Pac. I guess he wants for Bargaining power not sure. Miguel better not lose this fight however because if he does he might as well forget about any of the fights I mentioned.

Cotto is very difficult to outbox. You have to hurt him and be aggressive in order to keep him off you.. I don't think Trout can do that. It's a tougher fight than many will give Cotto credit for, but he should win it.

I expect Cotto to take a while to reel him in, but when he does, he'll take him into deep waters.
