Supernatural thriller The Possession easily possesed the #1 spot at the box office with $17 million on its first three days or $21 million counting Monday holiday. On a far distant #2 Lawless was able to attract only a portion of the holiday audiences with $10 million on its first three days or $13 million counting Monday. The Expendables 2 slipped to the third spot with $8.9 million for a total of $66.2 million so far. The esembled cast action film is still trailing behind the first film by around $14 million. The Bourne Legacy came in the fourth spot with $7.7 million for a $96.3 million totalin four weeks. ParaNorman took the fifth spot with $6.5 million for a total of $38 million, way below the numbers of Coraline a similar film that wasn't even considered a modest hit. The Odd Life of Timothy Green hold very well maintaining the same spot as last week ,#6, with $6.2 million. The Dark Knight Rises added $6.1 million to its box office record to pass the $1 billion mark worldwide. The Batman film had the curious case that this one performed better internationally than its predecesor, but less than stellar domestically than the previous entry. Right now it passed The Dark Knight in the All Time Worldwide chart and will most likely replace Alice in Wonderland as the #11 all time chart. The jury is still out if it will crack the top ten and elbow out Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace from the #10 spot. BTW, and just to piss the Nolanites, Marvel The Avengers is the third spot on both domestic and worldwide all time box office charts.

Oh I forgot to mention another movie that set another record this weekend: Oogieloves In The BIG Balloon Adventure became the #1 all time movie with the WORST opening ever in widerelease of over 2160 screens. It debuted in the #26 spot with a disastrous $443,901 for the whole weekend. That is an average of TWO PERSONS per showing per screen. With a budget of $20 million it just send to bankrupcy producer Kenn Viselman who also distributed the film on his own. No one will hire him in Tinseltown ever again.

Probably flopped from lack of promotion. I never ever heard of this film til just now. Somebody might have had it in for Viselman and set him up for failure as Hollywood is as political a place as anywhere.

It is a horrible teletubbies kind of children's movie. When we saw the trailer at the Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3 screening, most of the little children in the audience were unfazed, some made noises like "phooey!". I knew this was going to bomb, only thing is that it bombed worst than I thought it will.
