He gets credit for fine tuning Manny, but honestly, Manny is just an amazing physical talent. Many competent trainers could have polished up a raw Manny. Khan, and Chumpez Jr prove that Freddie is no miracle worker.
Not fair. There is no coach in the world that can't win without good players. Phil Jackson and the triangle offense would not have done shit with teams like the Toronto Raptors. Good trainer and a good fighter go together like 2 hands. What good trainers do is make tweaks here and there and get the best outta the athlete. Perhaps Khan and Jr have reached their potential. I'll Holla 5000
Roach is more of an offensive trainer and for offense, you actually have to throw punches. Chavez just fought like a gimp.
I like Roach but I could train the Pacman. I think he also let himself down with Khan. He didn't really improve Khan at all.
Kind hard to train prima donna's who have been spoiled their whole careers. He would need more time with them. Had he got them earlier maybe things would be better. He didnt fix manny overnight.
Good post. That's exactly what I've been saying all along regarding Khan. You're right, it's simply they've reached their potential, which btw is MORE than I thought possible of either of them. You can't work miracles if you don't have a great package to start with. Also Xplosive I'm very surprised to see this post from you, you even agree with me that Khan will be no different with a new trainer, and still have shit defense and boxing skill. So how the fuck does that make Roach overrated? ::
Khan was still pretty raw when he moved to Roach and there was no improvement in his defensive game. Does that say more about Roach or Khan? Regardless of Chavez and Khan Freddie is still a great trainer.
I think Khan would benefit more from a Steward type who would just have him fight in a basic, pussified manner. Not saying he'd be GREAT, but he'd probably avoid a few more KO losses if he did. Roach failed to add any new wrinkles to Khan's game, and with Chavez Jr, I think its fair to say that gets by mostly on his size and nothing else. He still has no defense, and is still a lazy fuck. If Manny Pacquiao wanted me to train him, I'd probably win "Trainer of the Year" award too. I think Roach gets too much credit even for that.
Roach is a GOOD Trainer, but like Most "Flavor of the Month" Guys (Buddy McGirt after Tarver KO'ed Roy, Don Turner After Holyfield Upset Tyson, etc.), he's a Bit Overrated...Dude is ALREADY in the Hall of Fame as a Trainer AND he had a Friggin HBO Piece...A Fucking TRAINER w/an HBO Piece DEDICATED Soley to Them???...THAT'S Overrating a Guy... But like REED Said, Roach IS a Good Trainer...Pacquiao was a Ballsy, Athletic Guy w/a DEVASTATING Left Cross & Not Much Else, when Roach 1st Got him...Pac Uses his Right Hand & Bodypunches ALOT More, Under Roach's Tutelage... REED:hammert:
You guys think it's as easy as pie to just polish a piece of shit into a Grammy Award winning musical artist and Champion Boxer? :nono:
