I know Wlad went after Brewster after Brewster went blind in one eye but what about the real Boogeyman? Did Wlad ever attempt to rematch Corrie? OR hell even Ross Puritty ?
I think Wlad was trying to regroup from a massive loss of confidence by taking on soft touch Fabio Moli in his return after the Sanders thrashing. Sanders had an opportunity to fight for Lewis' relinquished WBC title after Lewis' retirement and Vitali also set himself up as #1 contender after taking out Kirk Johnson. Wlad wasn't looking for a rematch immediately after his loss to Sanders to my knowledge. Nor should he have since it would've been risky. I know Sanders was involved in a bad accident prior to the Vitali match where he cut up his hands in an accident. He was looking very poorly physically coming into that match.
It would've been stupid for Wlad to jump directly into a rematch. He needed to get some easy fights in to regroup mentally.
Agreed. Wouldn't have made sense. Wlad was still damaged goods from that Sanders fight for a while after.
Boxing is mental. Using your logic, a bum like Buster Douglas has no business beating Tyson. But sh*t happens.
In a case of being badly beaten, an immediate rematch just doesn't make sense. Boxing isn't like tennis where you lose a match and then just move onto the next tournament like it's no big deal. One bad loss can really ruin or destroy a boxer's career. It takes a hell of an effort to come back when you've been crushed in a fight. It's the mental aspect that takes a long recovery time.
tyson also should never have gone into an immediate rematch against Holyfield. He did it under pressure. You could see in his eyes before the fight that he mentally wasn't prepare to face his conqueror so soon after the first fight. He needed 2-3 fights to get some of his confidence back.
i think in my mind voldamar alwys bow down to corries saner two fast two powrfull fast left hand of are times ok biiiyyyaaacch fagot
No, there was no attempt. It is traditional after a KO of that order to begin a rebuilding process. Evander Holyfield even considered retirement after he lost on points to Bowe, in fact I think he did retire, briefly. By the time any rematch could have been reasonably expected, Vitali had beaten him, pretty conclusively. It wasn't even a "do it for your brother routine", his path had legitimately crossed that of Sanders after Vitali emerged as the heir apparent to Lewis following their fight and Vitali's stoppage of Johnson. In fact, Wlad losing to Sanders was probably the best thing that ever happened to Vitali. Odd thing about Sanders and his power....Lewis never moved Vitali back like Sanders did. Speed, unorthodoxy and surprise are truly as valuable as any innate heavy-handedness.
