Hotel Transylvania became the sleeper hit of September by not only grabbing the top spot, but by breaking the previous record of that month. With $42.5 million it became the biggest opening ever in September, beating the previous record set by Sweet Home Alabama which made $37 million some years ago. This animated film also became Adam Sander's second best opening ever behind The Longest Yard ($47 million). The film which had glowing reviews from families is also Sony Pictures biggest opening for their animation department. In second place the Bruce Willis scifi thriller Looper opened to decent numbers of $20.8 million. Even though it had good reviews and a good advertisement campaign the film proved to be hard sell maybe because of its R-rated clasification. Dropping to the third spot, last week's #1 king, End of Watch, was able to take just $7.8 million. The Clint Eastwood movie Trouble with the Curve falls to the fourth spot with &7.2 million. The horror film House At the End of The Street drops from #2 to #5 with $7.1 million. With a two week total of $22 million this film proves that Jennifer Lawrence can't attract big audiences unless she is shooting arrows at teenagers. Pitch Perfect bebuts in the sixth spot with an unspectacular $5.1 million. But it was released in 335 screens, so that is a good number then. The other new release this week, the drama Won't Back Down, had one of the worst openings ever for a film that opened in over 2,515 screens. By grossing a lousy $2.8 million you can bet that those who watched this film had the whole theater room by themselves for each showing.

Wow the fans are really not showing much support for films these days. I actually find that kind of frightening. These bozo film makers are already scared as shit to put out "new" films. If people keep skipping out on them the bozo's will up the remake craze even more.

Well Hotel Transylvania did better than expected and the rest of the films were not that appealing to be honest. I think that Hollywood needs to grow some balls and explore new themes. Like adapting great books like Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy or Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama or panchyprsss own The Magiks of Lukzenth. But unfortunately you are right: we will see more remakes instead.
