Just caught this on Netflix. WOW!!! Fiennes was fucking great in this movie. Why he was not even nominated for an award, let alone win one is beyond me. Another person that was just great is Vanessa Redgrave. She was better than any supporting role i have seen in 2011. Just amazing. Just a warning to some of you. This is a Shakespeare movie and the dialogue is true to form. If you do not understand Shakespeare, please dont watch it. You will be lost. You know who you are. <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Di-XOO_LTlw" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" width="640"></iframe>
Yes, that is me. I actually downloaded this and started it but turned it off as soon as I heard the dialogue. They could have at least used subtitles.
The problem is that Shakespeare wrote language for the people of his day - a language that they could understand. People of today don't speak like this and they won't understand language like this - not because they're stupid but because they're not familiar or used to it. IMO, Fienes and script writers should've adapted the script to a more modern, dialogue benefitting a current setting.
That is rididculous. Shakespeare is very popular and very well known. And if you dont know it, blame it on lack of education. I was taught this in High School. And it still sticks with me.
I don't doubt you, but generally speaking, this is 'Generation-Now'....a whole world of impatient, simpleton, spoon-fed fucks who wanna be CGI'd up to fuck all day long.
He wasnt bad. The accent was a little rough, but he was ok. But he is insignificant compared to Fiennes and Redgrave. I didnt even think of Butler until you just mentioned him.
It just wouldnt be shakespeare. Rarely it would work in the case of West Side Story. But changing the dialogue just means its not shakespeare anymore.
