According to The LA Times, UFC President Dana White has announced that Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen will coach the next season of the Ultimate Fighter on FX. Jones will then defend the title against Sonnen on a PPV on April 27th. The season will begin shooting on October 29th, with a debut in January. The show will feature middleweight fighters, looking to earn a UFC contract. Sonnen's scheduled fight with Forrest Griffin at UFC 155 in December is now off.
I will say this again. Fighters are stupid for not talking more thrash. Everybody should learn to be a thrash talker because it gets you ahead in the game. At the end of the day it's television and being humble and respectful and all that is great but if you're in it for the money talking thrash pays.
This is crap for so many reasons. The fight is a mismatch. Sonnen has done nothing to deserve a title shot. The Sonnen\Griffin fight is off. And the 205 pound title will be held up until April. This is nothing but a desperation move because TUF's ratings are in the shitter. TFK
TFK, how much have the ratings dropped since the early seasons? I reckon it's because there has been far less house activity, less reality TV, which is exactly what attracts non MMA fans and women.
I will agree that this match-up is pointless right now. I was ok with Chael stepping up to fight Jones in a pinch at UFC 151, but that time has passed, I'm not even sure Chael is fighting again until next year against Jones. This dissapoints me.
So I guess this means Hendo vs Machida is a go. Which kinda sucks because Machida should school Hendo and then instead of Hendo vs Bones we'll see Machida vs Bones AGAIN. Sucks sucks sucks...
Its going to be fun. but the fight will be so easy. The lead up will be great. The only way this works out is if Sonnen wins. Which wont happen
well unlike jones' previous opponents, sonnen will immediately go for a takedown. i guess we'll know within the first minute if sonnen has a chance or not. i expect jones to win handily as well considering sonnen doesn't have a plan b. his bjj sucks and has zero knockout power. even if he somehow manages to take jones to the mat, i doubt he'd be able to sustain any meaningful attack.
UFC Fans Have THEMSELVES to Thank for this Matchup...Those of U that Accused Jones of "Ducking" Sonnen, that Is... U Bought Into Every DROP of the BULLSHIT Dana White was Spewing, After UFC 151 was Cancelled & Jumped OFF the Jon Jones Bandwagon...The Result???...Quite Possibly THE Most POINTLESS Fight in UFC History, Preceded by a Season of TUF to Hype Up The Most POINTLESS Fight in UFC History...The Title of this Matchup Should be "Foregone Conclusion"... No Condom, No Vaseline...Just a SORE Asshole from the FUCKING Dana White Administered to You... REED:dancingBaby:
I actually agree here, I don't believe for a minute that Jones actually refused the original UFC 151 match with Sonnen out of fear of losing or that he needed more time to prepare, he was simply trying to prove a point to Sonnen that he couldn't talk his way into a championship fight with him. But after the backlash and people saying Jones was afraid of Sonnen and ducking him, I have a strong feeling that Jones asked for this match to silence those people. Sonnen of course will take it because he wants a shot at every champion from 170-205. Now we have a pointless fight that probably most people don't want, even those that originally badgered Jones saying he was afraid to fight Sonnen. I think that TUF will happen with these two as coaches because it makes for good ratings, but I have a sneaky suspicion that their fight won't actually happen, one of them will have to mysteriously pull out due to injury.
Well, I don't agree with 'the most pointless fight in ufc history', but I do agree with REED, otherwise. UFC fans 'earned' this fight. The UFC's success and growth is what is turning (some) people off right now. It is becoming more like everyone's favorite sport to bitch about--boxing--in many ways. I don't mind this transformation, but I understand why others do. There is too much product (number of fighters, number of shows, number of ppvs, number of replay telecasts, number of weight classes increased), the quality control has (seemingly/possibly) slipped, a champion has failed to be the UFC's bitch, the novelty of TUF is gone, injuries, PED'S (this is my biggest bitch), etc.
None of this has anything to do with the fact that Chael Sonnen doesn't deserve the publicity nor the title shot he's about to get. What pisses me off is you have guys working hard to earn a title shot and then one is gifted to a guy with a big mouth. Anyone looked at Sherdog today? Many fighters are pissed off about this, Henderson, Machida, Forrest all publicly pissed off with this shit.
A 'good' performance against the top fighter in the sport is good enough to deserve a title shot in the weight above. These are just really fast examples that are similar: 1. Pascal had a nothing fight at supermid after losing to Froch and then getting a title shot at LH against Diaconu. 2. Mosley whupped by Pacquiao, gets title shot one weight up against Canelo. 3. DLH beaten by Mosley at W, gatti at W, title shot at Castillejo at JM 4. DLH beaten by Mosley at JM, title shot vs Sturm at M 5. Hopkins two losses to Taylor at M, then two weight classes up for immediate shot at Tarver
That doesn't change the fact that Chael is not a deserving contender. He got blown out in 2 in his last fight and the only competitive fight he had with Silva he was roided to the gills.
True, but just as Many Fighters Questioned Jon Jones' HEART, Lableled him a "Coward", a 'Bitch", All Kinds of Things...From Day 1, Jones Said he DIDN'T Feel Sonnen Deserved a Shot @ The Title, yet 1nce Dana White Publicly CHASTISED him for Not Taking the Fight, People Lined Up to Take Verbal Shots @ him... So U Definitely CAN'T Blame him for Taking the Fight Now...He TOLD Everybody Sonnen Didn't Deserve the Fight & He's Gonna SHOW Everybody Sonnen Didn't Deserve it, when they're in the Cage Together... ps. Henderson Should Kindly SHUTthefuckUP w/Any Complaints About how This Played Out...He KNEW He wouldn't Be Able to Fight Jones, a Couple Weeks PRIOR to Officially Backing Out...More than ANYBODY Else, it's Henderson's Fault that Things Played Out this Way.... REED:hammert:
Between this and the Overeem announcement, I am certain I don't understand anything anymore. I saw the logic, to some degree, in a Sonnen-Jones fight in order to save an event. But there is absolutely no reasoning or rationale to explain staging this fight now. Obviously TFK's explanation makes the most sense. TUF has suffered terribly since switching to Friday nights on FX. And this pairing will absolutely bump the ratings. Just unreal.
Absolutely.... What's Funny is, MANY MMA Fans OPENLY CITED Boxing, it's Model, The Way it was "Ran", etc., for INCREASING their Interest & Fandom in MMA &/or Turning them OFF from Boxing... Nonetheless, Slowly but SURELY, MMA's Most Important Company is Becoming a Facsimile of the Boxing "Model"... "Look @ me NOW" - Chris Brown/Busta Rhymes/Lil' Wayne REEDopcorn:
Man, Anthony used "RAN" incorrectly and you still haven't let it go. There is something admirable in that. Stacked cards and not having to hope that big fights happen were the things I liked about the UFC versus boxing. The stacked cards point is all but gone given how thin they've stretched themselves. But we still get the big fights. Hell, it even looks like we're going to get the Floyd-Pac of MMA in Silva-GSP if GSP gets by Condit. Luckily that part hasn't gone the way of boxing, yet.
How did i use "ran" incorrectly? I never used it incorrectly. Boxing is run like shit. I never said boxing was shit. The promoters and the sanctioning bodies are fucking boxing over and i stand by it. I love what Showtime is doing with boxing. They show the main card and show the undercard on a different channel. Good stuff. HBO does not do that. They show the main card and talk over the lower card. I dont even know what Reed is talking about, but didnt want to get into it. I dont see anything the UFC is doing similar to boxing.
I have so many friends that are just fans of the violence. Straight up. We toss back some beers and the memories of Tyson come out. They used to order all the boxing ppv events. They have changed to mma, mainly because of the action. The stacked cards. The brutal ko's. Now with guys taking on "safe" strategies like GSP and Machida to name a few, as well as the cards starting to really lack names and luster, I hear the complaining. They aren't guys like us that will post on forums. But they are guys with cash that will buy ppv's.
