R.I.P. Steward. The Kronk Boxing Team was one of the cornerstones of my younger boxing fan days.

    Great trainer. Can't be disputed.

Like all great trainers who become famous, Steward sprouted detractors like a tree sprouts leaves, but he was one of the great trainers. There's not been 9 better than he in the whole history of the sport.

    RIP

Agreed. It's virtually impossible to rate trainers but Steward wasn't a one hit wonder.

Yeah I remember Ian Darke always bringing up Mannys heavyweight title fight record during Lewis fights, pretty incredible.

Longevity. It's easy to forget but he spent 8 years alone with Wlad. Well there were other people there too but you know what I mean. :nono:

He was with Lewis for another 8-9 years.

He was with Hearns all his career for all intents and purposes.

Anytime anybody brings up the "who-made-who" argument , I just use the two tenures he had with Lewis and Wlad to suggest that Manny was at least 50% of the Hearns success story.

He also broke his balls over that waste of space Hamed and had his orthodox jab working really well, especially in the Soto fight.

  17. Loved Emmanuel Steward...of course toward the end he'd go with anyone who would pay him....but his legacy is intact and cemented as a HOF.

As a boxing fan, it's hard not to be saddened by the passing of someone that occupied corner duties for some of the most memorable fights in history.

Quick question for the diehards, what do you think was Steward's most memorable corner moment? I mean he sat opposite Leonard when Dundee bellowed the famous "You're blowing it, son! You're blowing it!" line before the start of round 13 against Hearns.

What corner work do you remember from Manny?

It wouldn't be any one moment, it would be Manny spazzing out in the corner with Wlad, Lewis and Taylor. You could cut a disc of Manny getting really fucked off and edit it for effect.

His "you got a dead man in front of you" rant during Lewis/Tyson is tops for me.

Also the time he shamed wald pussy into stopping Chambers.

best moment for me was when he tackled holyfield after round 12 of the bowe rematch.

Ditto for REED...Manny was Whacking Lennox in the Chest & Dropping "MF'ers" All Over the Place:clapagain:...As Animated as we've EVER Seen Him...For as Laidback as Manny Typically was, he was Definitely PASSIONATE About his Craft...CLASSIC Boxing Rant for Sure...Being on the OPPOSITE Side of Dundee's, "Ya Blowin' it, Son" Rant is Priceless as Well, as Trplsec Pointed Out...

The Biggest Reason Hearns LOST to Leonard that Night was his Inability to HOLD When Hurt...But By the Time of the RE, Hearns' Holding Allowed him to WEATHER Sugar Ray's Brief Storms...Lennox & Wlad were Adept @ HOLDING when Hurt as Well, After Working w/Manny...

It's Not Always Easy to Pinpoint WHEN & WHERE a Trainer's Worth is Applied, but this is a CLEAR Instance of Such, in Regards to Emanuel Steward...

    REED:partie:

It's weird - as I said before, I've never been a big fan of Steward as a trainer or commentator, yet I do feel sad now.

Whether you're a fan or not, I guess like Trpl said - he's just such a boxing legend it's hard not to be affected. Such a prominent face as a cornermen and as part of the HBO team.

That's it, he was always "just there". Part of boxings furniture. It will be a strange feeling with him not around now. Didn't see this one coming at all, had no idea he was seriously ill.

  27. Irish

That's because he works with Wlad and the Americans don't pay attention to Wlad because <strike>he's not one of theirs</strike> he is boring. I knew he had broken camp and would miss Klitschko's next fight and had gone into hospital. I didn't know he had colon cancer.

Manny was probably bored to death watching Wald's sparring

Do you agree it was pretty awesome the time Manny shamed wald pussy into stopping Chambers?

You knew he had cancer of the colon?

Poor Chambers. He is still asleep. Thats a horrible way for one brother to treat another brother.....Tom Steward and the Chamber-Breakers.
