Andrew Flintoff intends to become a pro boxer...

Former England Cricketer, Andrew Flintoff, has announced plans to become a professional boxer. Apparently, Barry McGuigan will train Flintoff, 34, who aims to make his pro debut in manchester in November. Flintoff though has yet to be granted or to even apply for a BBOC licence, according to the organisation's general secretary.

Cricket to boxing is a natural transition. Not much different than a 100M sprinter trying out the 200. Just a few tweaks need to be made.

 

I never heard of this guy. Thus I think he could perfectly fit into the heavyweight title picture.

 

At least he's white. That means he could be a decent heavyweight. Imagine someone saying this with a serious face back in the the 80's or 90's !

 

Excellent, I always look forward to seeing promising young talent in boxing. This guy has a pro athletic background, which definitely makes him one to watch.

 

He would be Vitali's best win.

 

Boxing is not cricket where you have an entire team behind you.

34 is far too old to embark on a boxing career.

 

Has he even had training previous to this new adventure into boxing? I mean it's not that straight forward. Me thinks he will make a fool of himself.

Some guy called Richard Dawson will be Flintoff's opponent on Friday, 30th Nov.

 

Holy fuck, he is actually fighting a guy with 2 wins, who is 23. I was expecting a 50 year old with a record like 1 - 15.

This Dawson fella fought twice in Oklahoma, so this is his first overseas pro fight. In one of his fights he and his opponent were deducted a point for constant holding.

It is always interesting to see other athletes trying boxing. It is not that interesting to see a cricket player do it though

I'm genuinely stumped as to why he's doing this. McGuigan can put as much spin on it as he wants but Flintoff is not a boxer and never will be.

Honestly he looks better than I expected for a complete novice, and cricket player.
