[h=1]Shane Carwin injures knee, forced out of TUF 16 Finale against Roy Nelson[/h] by Matt Erickson on Nov 14, 2012 at 5:20 pm ET Dana White probably hit the nail right on the head, and it's something he's far too used to. "It never ends," the UFC president said in a Wednesday post on Twitter announcing the latest injury to blindside the promotion a short time before a main event: Shane Carwin is injured and out of his fight against Roy Nelson. Carwin (12-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Nelson (17-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) were scheduled to meet in the main event of the TUF 16 Finale a month from now in Las Vegas. The TUF 16 Finale takes place Dec. 15 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The main card airs on FX. White said on Twitter that Carwin blew out his knee and that the promotion has already begun seeking a new opponent to face Nelson on the card. Carwin and Nelson coached opposite each other on the current 16th season of "The Ultimate Fighter," which taped over the summer and currently airs on Friday nights on FX. Carwin, a former interim UFC heavyweight champion, was going to be fighting for the first time in 18 months. He's been sidelined with back and neck injuries and subsequent surgeries. Now he can add a knee injury to his list of recent ailments. There was no immediate word just how severe the injury is or whether it will require surgery, so Carwin's new timetable for a return is unknown. His last victory came at UFC 111 with a first-round knockout of Frank Mir that took his record to 12-0 with 12 first-round stoppages. He won the interim title in that fight, and then met Brock Lesnar for the undisputed belt at UFC 116. After a dominant first round against the champ, Carwin gassed out in the second round and ultimately tapped to an arm triangle choke. At UFC 131 in June 2011, he fought Junior Dos Santos in a title elimination fight and lost by unanimous decision. That was his last trip to the octagon. The dynamic between Carwin and Nelson on the show, as well as through social media during the run of the taped series, has been mostly combative, making a fight between the two big men at least intriguing from a personalities standpoint, even if the winner wasn't going to find himself immediately in the thick of the heavyweight title chase. Nelson, who has won two of his past three fights, now awaits a new opponent for the card. And Carwin's fighting future becomes clouded and uncertain yet again.
Old Nog and Werdum are tied up till June 2013 (!) with their Brazilian TUF Struve earned a shot like this but I think the rematch would exactly the same. Only a couple minutes longer. Big Foot is fighting Overeem. Given Overeem's dog can provide him clean urine or hoping that his doctor doesn't try to frame him with illegal prescription drugs. Mark Hunt would be a good match up on paper but I think it would be a mismatch after Roy quickly takes him down. Frank Mir is injured. And no one wants to see that boring ass fight again anyway. Kongo is probably available (That would actually be my guess who they go with) Josh Barnett would be a good choice too but again just like with Ovreeem he can't be trusted to pass a drug test and I think Dana hates his guts but Barnett should be glad Dana loves money more than he hates him so you never know. Comier I think they can't bring them in even if they wanted to because he is contractually obligated to fight one more time in Strikeforce before he can come in. So I personally think Struve should get it . He earned it. Let him prove me wrong and beat Nelson. Don't give it to Kongo he hasn't earned shit. But I'm thinking they will. Oh ya also don't be surprised if they pull Antonio Silva out of the proposed Overeem fight and give it to him. And send Overeem straight to the title shot like they initially intended.
Cancel TUF. It ties up fighters for too fucking long and then they end up injured and can't fight anyway. Happened to Brock vs JDS too.
They just need to get away from the coaches having to fight. They should have coaches with contrasting styles on there like say like Faber and Silva for instance. It would interest me to see how the coaching styles worked against each other.
TUF is a lot shorter than it takes to show the full series. These guys are having a fight ever 2 days.
Having the coaches fight is probably not going to change. It works and adds to the intrigue. It's one thing to be a dickhead in a reality show, but quite something else to get to watch the dickhead fight the guy he's being a dickhead to. Bisping vs Mayhem would normally be a blah fight. I was really looking forward to it because of TUF.
The replacement is Mike Kyle, a light heavyweight. He's fought at HW before though including almost knockingout Bigfoot. He regularly beat up Cormier in the gym too.
[h=1]Matt Mitrione replaces Shane Carwin, meets Roy Nelson at TUF 16 Finale[/h] by Dann Stupp on Nov 15, 2012 at 6:00 pm ET Leave it to a veteran of "The Ultimate Fighter" to step up for fill-in duties for the show's next live finale. Following Wednesday's loss of headliner and head coach Shane Carwin due to a knee injury, "TUF 10" vet Matt Mitrione has stepped in as his replacement. He now meets Roy Nelson next month in the headliner of The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.
This is actually not a bad fight. I like Roy's experience to beat Mitrione here. I hate to see Mitrione lose though, he just needs more time to develop.
That's not what sherdog said yesterday. Yesterday it was Mike Kyle, today it's Meathead. Which is a much better fight anyway.
Meathead is a good choice. It's the two best guys from TUF Season 10 facing off. That being said, Meathead will be easy work for Nelson. Honestly, Nelson is better in every area.
Vice versa as well Z, but what can Mitrione do other than bang right now? He has less tools than Roy at the moment.
