Thats under pressure. Who was best on the back foot, turning defense into attack?

I've been watching a lot of Morales fights and that guy was excellent under pressure.

    What do you guys think?

Also any particular fights available online would be great, especially for older fighters

not his best opponent, but Brown vs. Wallace "Bud" Smith (any of the three fights) are excellent displays of his skill with good video quality

    Robinson against LaMotta or Graziano

Toney against Iran Barkley or Jirov

That's part of the reason the Morales-Barrera fights were so good. Both wanted to get that last punch in.

Pacquiao below feather would always fight fire with fire but wasn't always as good off the back foot. From around 135 and up he improved on it a lot.

Holyfield is certainly one of the best examples.

mayweather. he opens up a lot more when the guy is charging in. he happens to knock guys out occasionally when that happens.

mayweather is definitely at his best with somebody coming at him... good call

I venture the guess that with rivals like MAB and Pacquiao, this was an area Morales put a lot of effort into perfecting. I'm glad you pointed it out. Even in his last fight he managed to use Garcia's even limited aggression against him. I agree.

His first fight with Garcia was also very entertaining, with one eye he still schooled Garcia for most of the fight.

    Floyd, Ray Robinson, Joe Gans.

Honourable mention: Vitali. Ken Buchanan under siege from Duran was pretty good, so good he basically forced Duran to cheat.

How did you have that Duran Buchanan bout scored thru 12?

Duran was miles ahead. Floored Buchanan with his first serious punch. For a guy who ostensibly no way of winning {and that is key to my logic} the fact that Buchanan knocked out Duran's gumshield {repeatedly} and forced him to resort to cheating says a lot about how Buchanan resisted pressure. At least he didn't run like a faggot, a la Sugar Ray in the Ree.

I love Ken Buchanan, but I don't buy that angle. He fought hard but Duran could have slept through the last three rounds and still won it clearly on the cards... he was well ahead. The ending sucked, but Buchanan, too far behind and lacking the punch to change the fight, was never winning

Precisely. It makes no fucking sense. People make it seem like Duran NEEDED to foul to win

    Absurd, Duran dominated the fight.

What angle? That's just the point...he had no chance of winning.....and normally, people who fought Duran, and who had no chance of winning....got blown out, and beaten up, a la Davey Moore. Buchanan resisted pressure well. He couldn't possibly haven gotten to the 13th round against such a "prime" Duran, if he was not able to resist pressure.

That's being tough and good at surviving. I think TKO's point is more fighters who were good at winning or getting the better of their opponents, in the face of constant pressure.
