[h=1]Rory MacDonald-Carlos Condit Rematch Slated for UFC 158 in Montreal[/h] By Mike Whitman Dec 12, 2012

Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit will likely square off once again at UFC 158. MacDonald announced the planned pairing during a Wednesday appearance on MMAJunkie Radio. Though the promotion has officially announced neither the fight nor the event, UFC 158 is expected to take place March 16 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Following his unanimous decision victory over B.J. Penn this past Saturday at UFC on Fox 5, MacDonald requested a rematch with Condit during his post-fight interview. On Tuesday, Fuel TV’s “UFC Tonight†reported that “The Natural Born Killer†had accepted the Canadian’s challenge, though no specifics were released regarding where or when the bout might go down. Regarded by many as the heir apparent to reigning UFC welterweight titlist and Tristar teammate Georges St. Pierre, MacDonald suffered his lone loss to Condit in June 2010, when the New Mexican rallied in the third round to stop the prospect with just seven seconds remaining in a bout that many felt MacDonald was winning through the first two frames. Since that UFC 115 setback, MacDonald has won four straight fights, most recently using his size, reach and athleticism to batter former two-division champion Penn at the Key Arena in Seattle. Condit, meanwhile, rattled off three consecutive wins following his come-from-behind technical knockout of MacDonald, knocking out Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim before taking a contentious unanimous decision from Nick Diaz to win the UFC interim welterweight title this past February. Nine months later, the Jackson’s MMA representative faced returning champion St. Pierre in an attempt to unify the titles, coming up short on the judges’ scorecards despite flooring “Rush†in the third round with a high kick.
Great rematch that needs to be made. UFC got this one right on. Keeping fingers crossed it goes through.
You'd think Condit got dominated reading this. was a close fight where Condit took over and stopped Rory late in the third. I'm not even sure Rory was winning on the cards. Give me Condit again. Diaz vs GSP is also on this card.
I think Rory makes the correct adjustments in this one. I love the fact Diaz vs GSP is on this card as well. My guy feeling is if GSP beats Diaz and Rory beats Condit, GSP will announce he would like a fight with Silva. I don't think he will fight Rory.
REED's NEW to the Rory MacDonald Party.... Is MacDonald the Type to Turn HEEL & All of a Sudden PURSUE a Fight w/GSP???...Could this Be Bones Jones vs. Rashad All Over Again, in that Regard???...Or is the Kinship Genuine on BOTH Sides of the Coin???... REED:dunno:
It'd Be VERY Easy for MacDonald to Sit Back & MILK the BJ Win for a Fight or 2, but his Immediate Thoughts were on AVENGING the Loss to Condit... Gotta Loooooooooove a Cat w/THAT Level of MOXIE!!!... REED:hammert:
Rory lost to Condit due to conditioning and folding under pressure. It was a very tough fight for 2 rounds and Condit didn't bat an eyelash. Rory, on the other hand, didn't quite have the metal to survive. It wasn't a one-side beatdown by Rory for 2 rounds and then Condit landed a lucky shot. It was high octane affair and Condit was doing his damage along the way despite not winning the first 2 rounds. That being said, Rory had success taking Condit down. I don't see that changing. I expect a good fight with Condit losing a decision. But I will be rooting for Condit to bitch slap his ass again.
I think Round 1 was close to even actually. Maybe takedowns just edged it for Rory, but Condit landed some nice leg kicks and also knocked him down with a right hand. I'd say the rematch is close to a pick em fight.
It has to be said though, it was a bad stoppage. There were 9 seconds left, and MacDonald wasn't taking enough punishment that he couldn't have hung in there for another 9 seconds. If it went to a decision, it probably should have been a draw, if you score Round 3 10-8. Rory basically lacks toughness. As soon as Condit got on top and started doing some damage, Rory pretty much folded, faded, and didn't recover.
This is what it looked like to me. At the beginning of the third round Mac opened up aggressively, landing a head kick and some good punches. While trading, Condit lands a decent, at best, right hand that has Rory shooting for a take down. Things went completely downhill from there. It will be interesting to see Condit's game plan in the rematch and how Rory will act in the face of adversity.
His absolute only game plan is to avoid being taken down and controlled. It's his biggest weakness. MacDonald is going to be in total GSP mode for the rematch and Condit better have better take down defense than he's shown in the past.
