    Now look at what you've just said and think about it for a second.

    The Soviets knew how to get people to have 50" vertical jumps in the sixties. Instead of transferring this training methodology to their basketball and track teams, they kept it exclusive to their weight lifting program so that no one would ever learn about it except through books.

    Just to put it into perspective...you are saying that the soviet weight lifting team had 6' guys who could break their noses on a basketball hoop and muscle-bound thugs who could outsprint sprinting specialists over the first 15' of a race.

    To better translate, it's that the physical quality of short burst explosiveness is pretty transferable across simple movement patterns which don't require allot of technique. As soon as the soviets 'knew' this (why would they have tested their lifters jump/sprint capabilities when it had no bearing on their training?), they made use of the knowledge. Soon everybody followed suit and all track and field athletes devote allot of time to high end and explosive strength. Ben Johnson, to take an example of a guy who was known to be exceptionally explosive out the blocks, could squat well in excess of 600lb raw and deep at 180lb body weight.

    which proves the point i brought up the study to support anyway so feel free to disbelieve the 60s soviet study if you like,

    FWIW, this is what a 'muscle bound thug' on the 68 soviet lifting team looked like. Exactly like a modern sprinter to me.

    Sure, the soviets knew about or discovered benefits of plyometrics. It still won't get you the results you/they are claiming.
    50+ inch verticals? Come on, Hut. You might as well be arguing that Bruce Lee would whip all current mma guys because of his secret methods.

    Ben Johnson was a track-specific athlete. You are saying Lou Ferigno, Arnold, and Haney all would have hung with him for 15' or so.

    Power has always equaled WEIGHT by SPEED.

    It's the same in electricity. Voltage {electrical charge} by Amps {flow of current} =Watts {work done}. Take motors for example....

    A high voltage, low amperage system will build slowly to a high speed {RPM}

    A low voltage, high amperage system will build rapidly to a lower speed.

    A high-voltage, high-amperage system will produce violent, rapid acceleration to a high speed. It does lots of work, quickly, and is so referred to as a "high-power" system.

    I fail to see why there should be any confusion on the matter. Reverse the equation to understand it better.

    Large amounts of WORK {heavy weights} over a very short period of time {low reps} using maximum effort per rep generates a body {system} which is power-oriented.

    Take that system to an extreme conclusion and what you have is a powerlifter. Modify it and what you have is a boxer, or short distance runner with a great "kick", etc etc.

    It all depends on the regimen involved. I have found, working in construction, that I develop good power by dragging relatively heavy weights [45KG of sheet flooring, timber doors etc} up 2 flights of stairs using fast, explosive movements for a very short period of time. Lift...carry....drop...rest.....lift....carry...drop...rest....repeat. Basically I lift the weight, get up one flight, pause to catch my breath, go again...then drop the sheet, recover walking down the stairs, and grab the next one.

    Lifting lower weights repetitively, or going down the stairs with them, develops good cardio and burns calories.
